Are these cam journals serviceable?

Point blank: I bought these over the internet and want experienced opinions. The only experience I have is with my heads which had smooth cam journals when I changed the cams out.

These cam journals look toasted to me. Scratches are over .003" deep and cams have matching scores. The cam caps were loose which means the journals had been looked at prior to my purchase.

They're not serviceable. Just like main caps on an engine, they're installed, then machined with the heads for a perfect match.

There are machine shops who can machine out the journals and install bearings, but it's really expensive, and would cost way more than another set of decent heads.

Those heads have either been ran on zero oil pressure for an extended time, or had a shitload of metal run through them. Either way, I hope you got them for next to nothing. You could try to round up some caps off a bad set of heads and "hope" they fit okay, but otherwise, those are not good.

What did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking?

I paid $250 + shipping (used my fedex account so I don't even know what that cost me yet) for heads that were described as in very good condition with cams, followers, valves, springs, and lifters. The followers and lifters were in seperate bags.

Thanks for the reply.

They clearly are not as described. I'd start the reimbursement/return/strangle his neck process.

i have a set of heads that look just like that that i bought from a member here. i took them to kotzur, and he said they can fix them for $300 bucks. so they're just sitting in my garage.

if somebody has $75 bucks, they can come by my house and pick them up.

how much does aluminum sell for by the pound?

I bought them from a moderator on this forum. Apparently it was a third party deal and he didn't know the cam journals were bad.

He asked how much to resolve the issue and I guesstimated I could sell the useable parts and scrap the heads for $205. I paid him $250 + $7.50 for pay pal fees (he asked me to send it as a gift so he wouldn't get "taxed" on it). I paid for shipping through my fedex account and don't know how much that cost yet due to fedex not billing till the end of the month. I told him just paypal me a $100 refund and I'll take my chances sell the stuff for the rest. He agreed.

Now he doesn't have the money in paypal and asked me to wait for payment or wait for a money order. I told him I wanted it resolved and he didn't like that. The whole deal has been one long delay and now I'm done bending over trying to be nice about it.

Holywd sold me these heads. Since he's a moderator on this site I suspect I will shortly be banned or pinked. I will take it up with paypal.

These things shoulnd't of been shipped or sold. I was asked to use text messages for most of the transaction and asked to send money as a gift. Since I used my fedex account for shipping I have no recourse to paypal for that.

Thanks for all the info, it's a great tech site.

Bruce

With the quantity of items Hollywood buys/sells on this forum, I'd really question the "no money in paypal", and would also think he'd be more than willing to make this right as soon as possible for the same reason.

I would hope just because he is a moderator that does not remove him from being responsible and doing the right thing.........to me this is apples and oranges....he sold you something that was not as advertised as a private party not as a moderator so you should not be banned or pinked.

That's not good, Bruce.

And I don't believe the "classified" mods can do anything like that. Their powers are strictly for that section of the forum (locking/editing posts and whatnot) from what I remember.

I wouldn't worry about getting banned or pinked. He's held just as accountable as the rest of us when it comes to buying/selling on here.

And so you know Bruce you are not the only one this has happened to....

Thanks Greg. I've been pmed the links of previous bad HOLYWD deals by another member. After seeing those links I feel it's my responsibility to elevate this transaction. It isn't fun and I'm not the kind of person who enjoys the drama. In the end I have over $300 invested in junk that shouldn't of been sent. Other aspects were misrepresented too but I was willing to let that slide.

I did cc HOLYWD so he isn't getting blindsided.

Lol are you joking ?!?!?!
It's the weekend
I said i would send the money within 2 days once it was transferred or i could have priority mailed you a money order today .... I thought that was fair

Oh and it wasnt a 3rd party transaction. I bought this motor for my car 2 months ago or so under the impression that all was well other than a compression issue .
I told you i would give you money and all i mentioned is that i would be having a not so friendly convo with the guy i bought it from .

I thought i was being pretty cooperative .

Now i can see being mad about receiving not so good heads . But when i reply with ya let's fix this and i want to call the guy that sold them to me and bitch him out , i thought we were both on the same page ..... Now you are talking about some 3rd party seller BS ....
I purchased this motor from a local member
That had Dallas mustang pull it
And DM said only issue was the compression , needed a bearing or something . They said everything else was ok . So that's what he and I went off . So it's not like i am going to send u trash heads and just hope u keep it on the DL while i run off with your $ . Lol
