Now that the B53 is available, I've given serious consideration to the upgrade. I want a stout bottom end that will handle some boost, only problem I see could be the compression ratio, got off the phone with FRPP tech and it looks like the Mahle piston has a 10cc dish. If I use a 3V head, that could put the compression up there about 10.5 to 1 if I figured right, that might limit the amount of boost you can run with pump gas. Any input with this kind of compression or anybody running the B53 with boost ?

What blower would you be running? How much boost do you want to run?

When it comes to compression and boost it's a sliding scale. You can run a lot of boost and a little less compression, or vice versa. That said most blowers for the 3v don't move enough air even when all maxed out to have detonation issues on 9.8:1.

And keep in mind if you run a higher compression and a little bit lower boost (you will have about the same power) you will have lower intake air temps because you're compressing less with the blower. And compressing the air with the blower makes heat.

I would rather go with 9.5:1 and 18psi than 9:1 and 20psi.

You may want to go back and recalculate the anticipated compression ratio. (I used to have a template for calculating compression ratios, but cant put my finger on it right now). Your post didn't mention which 3V head you are using. With a Stage 2 / Stage 3 head and a 10cc dish, I would have expected low to mid 9's with 3v head.

Keep posting as you build. Very curious about final results.

FYI...I believe those are the same heads I'm using (50.3 cc chamber) part# M6050N3VPA...my current engine is 3.75 stroker, .020 overbore and manley flat top pistons. Lito and I figured that my engine is roughly 11:1 compression with flat top pistons.

On E85 with 9-11psi of boost I made around 630rwhp and 590 rwtq with my edelbrock blower through an auto (old 4R70W). Of course a turbo at that same boost if set up correctly should make more power.

Gotta love those flat top pistons for making great compression!

Not to derail the thread but can I run this engine with 3v heads without a power adder until I save up enough to add the blower?
