Barton Shifter woes

Does anyone else have a Barton shifter in your car, that you've come to hate? Had mine installed and got an old bushing/mount design. Was very difficult to get into 1st, 2nd and reverse. I was advised that there were problems reported with a few shifter kits and that a new bushing would be sent out.

My shop ( No complaints with them at all )installed the new rear support bushing and it was smooth as silk for the first 1500 miles or so, now its back to the same damn thing. If I still had my stock shifter, I'd re-install it.

I have to fight to get it into 1st, 1st to 2nd takes so much force that I could never have my wife drive my car. And yes, I have tried at all speeds, including at idle... And yes, the clutch is fully disengaged.

I understand the remote linkage thing and how Ford should be forever shamed over it. I also understand that if there are any major changes to the chassis that it can distort the geometry, like bending the car in two, mismatched motor mounts and so on. None of which describe anything that I've done to my car.

I have this thing..... that I will give anything a second chance.... I am having a struggle with deciding to call Barton to ask for another bushing or just saying...... time is up!

Any thoughts on MGW units?

I've had an MGW with a 3650. It made a big difference. It's a good unit and worth the money.

I have a Barton installed and don't have any of the issues you describe. Is it smooth as a hot knife through butter, no but it is quite a bit better than my stock shifter.

I loved my MGW (until I replaced the transmission and could no longer use it). Not only are their shifters very well designed and built, but George and company all seem to bend over backwards for their customers. Even those who have bought their shifters second hand get excellent product support and service.

Looks pretty cool...except you gotta cut up your car for 2011+ & looks like clearance issues on lowered vehicles.

Still love it....I had mine installed about a year ago and there's absolutely no comparison to Stock,
Hurst Competition Plus, and Billet Plus shifters !

my Barton still shifts great. only about 3000 miles on it though so time will tell.

If your not running an MGW shifter, your running the wrong shifter!!

Looks pretty cool...except you gotta cut up your car for 2011+ & looks like clearance issues on lowered vehicles.

You just have to cut off two studs...

And have you seen my car? Being lowered is not an issue--there are parts of the frame much lower than the brace.

Wont fit on a turbo car, it appears.

And on another note.... I don't think I should be required to spend $200 to make a $300 part work. Since when does a shifter require a supporting mod........ In this case, a mod that would make it work as intended.

(BTW, this was not intended to be a MFG bashing..... Just looking for advice and recommendations)

I use the brace and a stock shifter and I have NO shifting issues at all. I never implied you had to spend more money to make a part that doesn't work work.

Sucks that you spent $300 and then, because you couldn't install it yourself, spent more money at a shop that probably installed it wrong.

My advice and recommendation is to learn to drive.
