I'm trying to swap out a blown hydraulic throwout for the first time. To my surprise, everything was going great...up until the moment of truth. I can't get the freaking transmission bellhousing separated from the block. I triple checked that all the bolts are out, but it just seems fused. Any tips?

Start prying. The dowels get stuck due to corrosion and it doesn't take much. Pry gently using the midplate for leverage. Good luck.

Good luck...How many miles are on the vehicle? We just took mine out when I got my new motor and it was like welded shut...Just get some gloves (highly recommended) and start jerking, bouncing, prying, crying, cussing, drinking, jerking some more, yelling at your children to make you a sammich, etc!

Not questioning you but count how many bolts you removed? Should be 7. If you have all 7 out, as others have already stated the transmission bell housing is stuck on the dowels. If it is stuck that tightly, don't be surprised if the dowels come out with the transmission.

When you finally do get it out (mine was a serious pain) and go back together, use some never sieze on the dowels.

Mine was stuck enough that it pulled a dowel out of the block.

3' piece of 2x4 worked great. It took a dozen back and forth tugs, but it came free. Used a ton of anti-sieze when I put it back together.

Now if only I could fix the problem...
