Just a wee side question, does anybody know if the Tr3650 box from the 4.6 2 valve fits the 4.6 3 valve?
I'm thinking of doing a manual box swap now that ive stripped the car.

The TR3650 from the '01-'04 4.6 2V models doesn't have provision for a hydraulic slave cylinder like the tranny from the '05-'10 GT because those earlier models came with a cable operated clutch. If you can also source the clutch assembly, clutch pedal, and clutch cable from a 2V model, you can make it work. You'll also need a flywheel with a 6-bolt flange, and you'll need to check the length of your existing automatic driveshaft to ensure it's also correct for a TR3650.
Note that the earlier TR3650 came with a taller 0.62:1 5th gear ratio compared to the 0.68:1 ratio 5th of the '05-'10. The other gear ratios are the same.
Finally, you'll need to have your automatic ECU reflashed to disable the transmission shift points.

Thanks for the info Dino. I was counting on having to get a manual shaft so it would be a bonus if the auto shaft fitted. ECU needs reflashed with a copy of a manual map? If I can source the flywheel, pedal box etc I might go down that route. All depends on the TR3650 box I'm watching at the minute and if I land it at the right money.

Forgive my ignorance, but if it's a stock Ford part, aren't there sources in Europe?
Mustangs weren't sold in Europe until the S550 was launched in 2015. Therefore none of the European Ford dealerships stock parts for earlier models and they'd have to order them for customers from Ford USA.

To be honest it's much quicker (and probably cheaper) as a customer to find the parts yourself and order online. Some used parts from cars that have been broken for spares can be found from European vendors in eBay, though there are plenty more from the USA). I'd be careful about buying new parts from eBay though 'cause some of them are counterfeit (Chinesium?) and packaged as genuine Motorcraft parts. It's better to order those from a reputable US vendor.

The odd S197 GT does appear in a European Copart auction as a potential fixer upper or parts donor, so it might be useful to buy one if the price is right.

I always keep a small stockpile of new service parts, and I still have some of the original parts that I replaced with upgrades on a shelf.

Just figured Ford Europe would be able to order in a part from the US, and assumed that would be easier than hunting around.
There was a decent S197 presence in Germany when I was over there.
