Lito I made the same choice with mine. I went with -17cc dish JE pistons which yield about 8.7 compression ratio with our heads. I also run a very conservative DD tune so I don't have to worry about a load of bad gas.

Thank you all for the great info, I'll be going with the 8.7 CR. I really want this thing to last and not have to worry about filling with bad gas or any other issues like that.

I'll order the cams, shortblock and clutch this weekend and go from there. I'm going to have my spare heads checked out tomorrow and maybe slightly worked and rebuilt by Mike at Quarter Mile Mustang.

I think I'm going to go with a Exedy mach 600 clutch, should I get a matching exedy steel flywheel? Any 8 bolt flywheel for a modular engine should work correct?

I would send the heads to Ron @ Fox Lake Racing...Amazing guy who knows his shit. I would make sure the person working on the heads are very knowledgeable about 3v heads

As far as the flywheel, the 8 bolt will only work if you have a stroker assembly which I'm assuming you will be since your going to order a motor...if its going to use the stock crank, you will need a 6 bolt. As far as clutch/flywheel, get aluminum if you can. If not, the steel is fine. I can't comment on the exedy clutch as Ive never used one.

Mike does some great work and has done plenty of work on 3v motors. He made 925 whp on his eleanor.

The aluminator uses an 8 bolt forged crank.

I did some searching and it seems some people have had idling issues with them. I'd like to get the best gains without sacrificing driveability, maybe I should stick to some 127300's.

I've kinda see stuff about problems with the 127550s, but not the regular 500s. I have the 500s and I love them. Zero complaints. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a poor review of the 127500s.

Just did some more searching, it seems someone picked up 59 rwhp just by switching from 127350's to 127550's. That has me sold as far as power, just need to make sure they won't kill me on the driveability.

300's drive like stock and make power with a whipple. Zero losses. They can usually be found for a good price too.

What do you know, I just happen to have a whipple and 127300 dyno sheet. Keep in mind this was with only 11 degrees of retard at wot. IIRC we were able to sqeeze more power out of more retard. I know at some point the motor made 553 on gas with those cams but I can't remember if it was the same pulley. I've done too many mods to keep all the details straight.

The only difference between these pulls is the cams. Most impressive to me is how much was gained under the curve by way of averages.

Lito what do you think about driveability with the 127550's? Should I get them or something else? I'm ordering parts now.

They can be made to work right, have tuned them with centri, never on PD but had cams with much less vacuum working perfect.

NOW, I would stay away of them for other reasons than driveability, they are more intended to a centri than a PD blower, shame that comp do not have a high lift with more LSA. Personally I would go with a 300 or a 350 if sticking to comp offerings.

I would have custom cams made.

Sorry to hear about your misforture. I just whippled mine a month or so ago, and am laying down 474HP with a custom tune. From what I hear it's not if it will happen, but when. So needless to say I'm concerned this will happens to me, but hopefully not anytime soon

If I had that much power on a stock block I would DEFINITELY forge that baby ASAP if I was going to keep the stocker.

I LOVE power and speed but I am also VERY careful with making sure everything we do to any car can handle the power with as much security as possible.

We had a 06GT we beefed up and we beefed up the support along with the power at the same time to MAKE SURE as we could.
LOVED that car and miss it often but we would not change our decision to trade it for the GT500, despite all the hard work in go fast mods, AND cosmetic mods that made the car as much as a dream car as you can without the special edition tag of those category Mustangs.

BTW or GT500 is stock hahaha!

Just ordered the 127350 and exedy mach 600 with 8 bolt flywheel.
Custom grind cams sounded great, but I'm on a time constraint.

I just saw it, I'm going to PM him now. It's a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I'll see what if we can work something out.
