I just can't catch a break with this car. Happened to notice this coming out to the car this morning:

Looks like some jackass hit me in the parking lot at work yesterday afternoon and didn't have the decency to leave a note.

I'm debating on whether to file a claim with my insurance to get it fixed. I had similar damage on my previous vehicle that was well over $1000. What do you guys think this might run? It looks like the fender has been dented and pushed up against the hood and the bumper is damaged and torn (although it doesn't show up well in the pic). Deductible is $500, so if I can get it fixed for around that I wont bother with the claim and my rates going up.

If I do end up filing a claim, is there any way I could maybe have a CS bumper put on? Some of you guys I'm sure have requested similar things. How does that normally work?

Probably wouldn't bother with it at all, but I think I'm stuck with this thing for a while....

Almost forgot...I know we have some navy guys here, and this happened on a naval station. Is there any recourse for me if I find the car that did this?

Supply the bumper and the shop owes you the balance of what was written in the estimate for cost of the bumper if they are paid directly. If the ins company sends you a check its even easier. Thats some shitty luck sorry to hear it.

Don't assume your rates wont go up if you file a claim. Not sure if you considered that..
Made a claim on my Infiniti a few years back, for similar damage( mine was probably a little worse).. And next time my insurance was due for renewal it had increased like 30%!

You should call thepolice either way, cause they sometimes like to see the report... also they can look out for the vehicle too, because if he was parked there with you he probably works/lives there.. keep your eyes out, and if there is no report in the first place how can you prove it was him??

Yeah, that's why I haven't filed a claim yet. Not sure if it's worth it to go through insurance. I'm afraid to even call them to ask if my rates would go up.

Thats kinda my question. Would I call the military police? I assume city police wouldn't be able to do anything.

I am military police... *insert joke here* but here on ft riley you have 72 hours to report the accident or your SOL, so you should call them and report it.. I am not saying you have to but if it were me I would at least call it in so IF you need the police report you have access to one..and would help to see if he left any paint on your car to see what color his was..

Most of the time when you file a report with the Military Police-either rent a cops or MA"s-it won't do a whole lot of good and I don't think NOB has camera's on poles to monitor the parking lots. Plus since you have moved your car unless you remember exactly where you parked it would be hard to recreate the scene.

You are right, you can't catch a break with this car....sorry to hear it...and it seems this day and age if you sneeze too hard on a car you have $1K in damage.

^What he said.

Someone backed into my front fender the other day and put a large dent into it. Didn't notice till I got home. Avoiding insurance and just paying out of pocket.

Plus if you turn it in to your insurance company and go to sell it someday, the carfax report will show an accident.

That should be a Comprehensive claim. That should not cause your rates to rise.

I just fired Allstate because they jacked my Homeowners rates (no claims since I first got HO insurance- 13years), so they lost the cars and the house.

My new agent told me my 2 recent Comp claims had no bearing on my rates. I went with SAFECO and my HO and Auto policies are cheaper than with Allstate.

Thanks for the input guys, I decided its not worth it to deal with insurance and I'm just going to fix it myself as funds allow and put on a CS bumper from AM or LRS. Its just going to be a while with everything else that needs to be addressed.

This car is like a bad relationship. Stuff just keeps going wrong but I'm convinced I can fix her! 2013s are sooo tempting but I just don't want the payment.

Almost the same thing happened to me couple weeks ago at work! You're damage is a bit worse but it's very similar to my damage. Guy ran off too, scumbag. Someone saw him do it and got his plate # and went into and gave it to me though :thumb2:.

For new headlight, fender repair, respray, hood respray, bumper repair and respray I was paid out like $1500 from insurance. I used some of the money to buy a Cervini hood since I didn't want that bubbling coming back.

Guess it was worth it in the end, at least I did not have to pay out of pocket. I paid out of pocket just recently in May when the idiots that mow the lawn at my job hit it with their mower and refused to pay. A year before that my v6 got the front end smashed in while I was in the gym and had to pay out of pocket then too. Getting sick of this lol.

I actully had some kid cross 3 lanes of traffic and side swipe my front-p/s, she damn near took my bumper and headlight with her. I saw her rear wheel come up off the ground as she literally ran me over, then she guns it and heads for the left turn lane. Nissan mini-SUV vs Stang on the bottle with a mildly irritated owner driving... and she thought maybe I what, hit a speed bump? After I chased her through the turn and another 1/2 mile down the road, laying on my horn the whole way, she pulls off into a parking lot, huge drama, 2 weeks later her insurance fixes my car and all is well. Moral of the story, people are fucking lame, have no pride nor sense of honor. I hope they all choke on a fat greasy $0.99 taco, the cheap fucking morons that they are! KILL EM ALL!!
