My damn brakes are starting to squeal and grind again. The damn rotors and pads out back were installed/replaced back in October of 2009, and now they are doing the same thing again. My rotors are getting eat'n up out back, and when I am just driving it makes really bad noises, but tones down a bit when I actually apply pressure to the brakes. Any help on what might be the problem here?

I got brake noise out back when driving normally, for me that means damn fast and late braking in the corners, when the pads are worn down. I see you had them done in 09 how many miles. Its more the miles/usage of the brakes not the time that matters to how long they live.

are you absolutely sure the parking brake cable is not adjusted too tightly or the cables are not fully releasing and causing the rear brakes to drag.

Keep in mind our 05/06 vehicles had issues with the parking brake cables freezing and not releasing - tsb out on this issue and revised cables have been released to correct this chronic problem. Yours may have been damaged in the cold weather without your knowledge and now dirt/water have entered the cables not allowing the cables to release properly.

Fuck, I think that's exactly what is happening. I'm almost 100%. My E-brake has been different on me over the past year and a half, but I rarely use it. Excuse me, but god mother fucking damn it that pisses me off even more. Thank you for the help, I'm getting it checked out today.

I'm going to just go ahead and order the cables, I'm hoping they are not too expensive. Is the swap pretty self explanatory?

I've put maybe 15-20k miles since the install, but I'm thinking the above post it my issue here.

Just fyi - I live in Central Florida. I had this exact same issue occur during the summer months. Boots on both cables were cracked/deteriorated and allowed foreign debris to enter the cables and resulted in rear brakes dragging.

No reason at all to get new parking brake cables. The ones on your car are adjustable. When a shop replaces rear pads, they are also supposed to check and adjust the parking brake cables. If I were you and you still have your receipt to the shop that did the rear brakes last time, I would take it back to them and say, "I'll buy the parts, but the labor should be free. Otherwise, I'mma talk big doo-doo about you." Otherwise, take it to a different shop, or do it yourself...it isn't hard, and tell that different shop to be sure to adjust your parking brake.

You should have noticed that your gas mileage started to suck a lot after the last brake job if the parking brake cable wasn't adjusted properly.

These cables were revised even after the TSB was written, latest part numbers should be:

6R3Z-2A635-F Cable Assem. (Left)
6R3Z-2A635-E Cable Assem. (Right)

The original cables and even the new cable part#s referenced in the TSB still had the same issue - hence the even newer part#s I posted. I would still ask your dealer to make sure the part#s I posted haven't been replaced yet again.

Replacement isn't too bad if you have the vehicle on stands or have access to a lift.

PS: I paid $52.29 for each cable but I get a heck of a discount through work. If you need the R&I procedure, PM me with your email address and I send you a copy.

If you've checked cable adjustment, this is really the only thing that could be causing both of your rear brakes to wear out so quickly.

Did you even bother to read the TSB I referenced. The cables are a "Known Product Problem". I have both an 05 & 06 GT and both vehicles had this issue and I don't even live where it gets cold.

Ha. My gas mileage has never really been that great from the get go anyways. I'm not even going to bother going to the shop that did the install due to distance, and it being a year and a half ago.

I've got access to a lift today, so I'm gonna check it out. I priced the cables on Tousley, and it's $97 plus shipping on their site for both cables. I'm not looking forward to doing this, but shit happens. Thanks man, and I'm going to send you PM for the procedure.

it's the interior of the cables, read the explanation. The rubber boot disentegrates allowing dirt and water to get inside the cable housing. No amount of adjusting on the planet can fix a jammed cable.
