I guess this will be like a build log in some sorts.

Goals: Super reliable long lasting street mustang, 550 RWHP, maybe take it to the track a bit and l2drive.
Going to slap a DoB supercharger on it after the blocks all done.
Pushed for the big bore 5.0 so I can have less boost needed for the same HP.

So I've ordered the block. Ford Big Bore 5.0 L Modular Block.

Rods seem easy enough, some Manley H Beams.
Pistons I'm going to do some Manley 3.7 inchers with -14cc dish. That SHOULD if my calculations are correct be around 9:3-9:4 compression.
Anyone know the size of the stock 3v heads? I was putting in 49.5cc to the calculator.

Piston rings - I'm thinking some kind of Moly setup. I'm a little fuzzy here, from what I've read those are best for this setup, least wear on engine, easiest break in, etc etc.

Okay, so what am I forgetting?
Ford Racing Oil pump with an upgraded gear?
Uhh, no idea what kind of ARP main, side, head bolts to get.
I think I read I'm going to need a special motor mount adapter.
Head gasket kit
???
I think there is another thing or two I need to replace to get the big block in there. Will have to revisit a few threads. BruceH is the MAN.

Yo what about that crankshaft. I was hoping to just stay stock but... idk, 550 rwhp, stock crank - maybe not a good idea? I'll keep my eye out for a forged one.

I've never built an engine before - this should be a long fun painful experience! Wish me! :iranmaybe:

Why not just order the 5.3 assembled short block from frpp?
