Just Installed new rear bump stops. The old ones were starting to disintegrate. My 05 GT is lowered about an 1 inch in the rear, maybe a little more. It looks like the factory bumps stops at some point were rubbing the frame. There were orange foam marks/residue on the frame. After Installing the new bumps stops I only have 1 inch of clearance. Do I need to cut the first section of the bump stop nub off?? I would think I would need more clearance than 1 inch.

Yeah I cut mine to the first collar but only after driving it and seeing and feeling if they were touching. I am 1” lowered on Ford “P” springs.

With my Eibach springs, I originally had the ford performance joust bump stops, however I noticed they were basically resting on the perch and the rear would feel a bit odd over bumps, so I cut mine down to the square end and it rides much better. Even over big bumps, no issues bottoming out

Seems to be a common issue on the rear of S197,s finding that sweet spot with bigger wheels. I had the same issue with coils overs, had to run them stiffer than I would like

On your lowered '05 GT, 1" of clearance with the new bump stops is pretty tight, especially if the old ones were already rubbing the frame.

Following. I think I need to go check mine as well. It’s lowered (bought it that way) but I haven’t put eyes on the bump stops yet.

So, I cut the first nub off the bump stop. Got the car down on the ground with my new tires finally! Took it for a 10 mile test ride and it seems good. I didn't feel any bottoming out at all. I'll have to take it on a longer ride to be sure though. I have about a 1 1/4 inch clearance. If I need to, I guess I can always cut the next section off.

I bought them from Amazon. M5570A 4Pcs Front and Rear Bump Stops for Ford Mustang 2005-2012 Replace M-5570-A, Jounce Bumper Kit. They were only $13.99 and they came with everything (bracket and bolts) There are a few kits on there, and they all look the same to me. I looked around for a while because I really didn't want yellow, but that's the only color I could find. The quality seems just fine.
