Have any of you guys ran into something like this? Yesterday I went to a track day at Waterford Hills Race Track. After one of my sessions my car was idling very rough - the car sounded like it had a very agressive camshaft and was iding way too low of an RPM (brought me back to the days when I messed with carburetors and distributor timing).

Sequence of events:
-Ran a 20 minutes session.
-Took one full cool down lap at the end of the session (kept the car 40-60 MPH and under 3500 RPM).
-Came into the paddock, parked, shut the car off in-gear and opened the hood.
-About 30-40 Minutes later, I started the car up and it was idling very rough as desribed above. There were two pending DTCs (forgot to write them down) for "Camshaft Position A too Advance" for bank 1 and 2. The car smotthed out by itself after about 1-2 minutes.

My car is a 2012 Mustang GT with stock-tuned 5.0L Coyote, I run an oil separator, recent oil change with 10w-30, stock cooling system (no oil cooler), GT grill with fog lights, CS/GT lower valance with Boss 302 lip and brake cooling ducts.

I do mostly autocross, but I like to do track days here and there. I'm not overly concerned with what happened, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this. I have been thinking of upgrading to the 2013-14 GT500 cooling fan, running some sort of oil cooler anyway and doing something with the upper grill (either remove the fogs or grind out the blocked mesh).

I would probably ask a moderator to move this over to your applicable year tech section. Certainly a lot more ECU and engine related folks hanging out there that might be able to better help you if you don't get an answer here.

Are the codes still there?

Also, if you're not running an oil cooler, I would put 15W-40 in the car immediately before the track day and drain it afterwards.

There have been a couple of people on bossmustangsonline who have had this happen to their cars I believe.

Codes are gone. Ive done a few other track data with the car and never had an issue.

You run 15w-40 in your car for the track? I run 5w-30, just wondering how you came to that decision.... I do NOT want to start an oil debate here, just curious.
