I am planning on purchasing a scanner that has the ability to read generic DTCs, OEM enhanced DTCs and transmission codes. Not necessarily wanting a scanner capable of reading ABS or SRS DTCs, but not out of the question depending on the price.

Has anyone used this one?

If so, what is your opinion?

I haven't purchased anything yet and I am open to suggestions.

PS: planned budget is $400 to $500, less if possible

For that price range of $400-$500 you can get an SCT tuner that does data logging, reads OBD-II codes, along with three tunes and it allows you to reprogram the car for better performance other tires and gears, etc...

I haven't found a code it doesn't read yet, but I haven't broken everything yet either.

It read the code for my ABS wheel speed sensor with a broken wire.

Torque + a $25 bluetooth OBDII dongle from eBay. Awesome... works on any vehicle with an OBDII port.

That's the exact dongle I have. What he doesn't tell you is that the screens are completely configurable. You can record and/or display anything coming out of the OBDII port. Well worth the $30 total investment, and pretty priceless when friends need a code read.

For iPhone queers, there's a similar app called Dynolicious. It's $25... consider that the price you pay for being a hipster doofus.

Do you know if the 3160 will read SRS and ABS codes from your Mustangs?

If you have a laptop, check into autoenginuity. You can buy just the Ford bundle for the price your looking to spend and with that programming you have bi-directional controls which is a handy feature. I worked with a guy that had it and it was pretty nice software for the money.
