Can't Fit 3 Fuse Taps In SJB

Hello everyone. Just curious, is there an alternative to a third fuse tap in the SJB? I'm looking to provide constant power to the newly installed dash cam but don't seem to have the space. One fuse tap provides switched power to the Aeroforce Interceptor, the other to the dash cam. Need constant power to enable the parking mode feature.

Please help if able.

If you don't think you can fit another mini fuse tap in there, you can use a mini fuse extender On one of the +12v circiuts and then a blade fuse tap there.

I could be wrong Jon, but I don't think its advisable to try to tap anything into the SJB as its very sensitive and you could blow it.

Constant power? Why aren't you running it from the engine bay through the firewall?

Knowing the issues people have with those SJBs already I'd personally be hesitant to tap ANYTHING through there.

What wire are people tapping for dash cams? I was thinking of just tying to the 12v accessor wire in the center console instead of using a fuse tap.

I've used wire taps in the SJB with no issues - the problems aren't with the box itself, but usually because of corrosion on the board's harness connections.

But I've also tapped into wires like the ones in the console (properly fused) for various applications.

For a dash cam without hanging any wires I would think reading/dome lamp would be a good source to tap into?

Ran my mirror with compass garage door opener through there years ago and it hasn't hurt anything.

I was told by an expert in England who completes IVA light conversions and repairs or replaces SJB,s for a living that they are very sensitive to voltage draw or overload. He has repaired and replaced a good few down to people rewiring and overloading it. I had to rewire my lights to comply with UK and Irish law I used a relay type system to conform the rear lights that is a recommended process. I just took him at face value that he knew his stuff and that he stated the SJB was delicate piece of electronics. Maybe they are tougher than that as you guys have got away wiring straight into them.

Is there any alternatives to replacements 86GT? how would you get around the issue if the SJB was scrap or is the whole car scrap at that point?

I've used the open/unused slots on my SJB to supply power to my rear lights modules. Since none of the fuses are over 10 amps and I don't pull that much I figure its fine. The open slots would supply power to something else I don't have in my car. I would be surprised if it causes issues. Also someone told me the 07+ SJB can handle more power.

On mine were 2 switched and 2 constant power slots.
