Hi guys. Read alot but don't post much. I have a 06 gt vert with an Edelbrock S/C brenspeed tune and all the goodies that go with it. I currently have factory exhaust manifolds, pypes x-pipe and Roush extreme axle backs. I am wanting a little more volume from my exhaust and was considering cutting open my cats and just cleaning them out and re welding them while they are still on the car. Any thoughts? Do it/ Don't do it? I do know it may cause the o2 sensors to throw a code but my concerns are performance issues or problems with my tune or my SC setup. Thanks in advance for any help>

Removing the cats you will lose some bottom end torque.
You WILL have a check engine light. Not for 02 sensors, but for catalyst efficiency. It is really hard to get a cat delete tune anymore.
It will not pass smog check.
Not worth it IMO.

Deleting cats are not going to make much of a difference until you do headers. Headers will flow the exhaust more efficiently, lowering boost and adding power. If you don't have to pass a smog then just delete the cats when you get headers. If you have to pass smog you can go with hi flows or cat sims.

I have read that it's nearly impossible to get a reply from Lito. Does anyone know what he charges?

Very easy to contact him. He will send you a list of things he needs from you, along with a price list.

I am running a built engine with a stage 2 Roush.
Lito advised me that pushing much more power would melt the cats. So I gutted them.
While I did not notice any loss in low end torque, I did notice an increase in power.

Most hand-held tuners will turn off the rear O2 sensors to prevent the check engine light.
My State allows for ONE emission system to be "not ready" and still pass inspection.... so I can get the car through with no problems.

I'm running stock headers.... they flow pretty good for stock.
And at the time, I was concerned about having too loud of an exhaust from headers.
Borla S-type exhaust ruined that dream. (lol)

Well guys. After much debate and research I’ve decided NOT to go with long tubes. Found out they only give about a 7 hp increase over stock manifolds. And they also make your car stupid loud. I’ve decided to go with custom grind cams, high flow cats, and a new tune. About the same cost( slightly more) but with about 50-60 hp gains.

You should see significantly more than 7 HP from long tubes on your supercharged application. I've seen dyno results of 20+RWHP on a boosted 3V. Even on an NA 3V, 7HP is on the low end.
The big dB jump you see after many long tube installations is from removing the OE cats which absorb a lot of noise. Headers are a bit louder than stock manifolds under the hood but if you were to weld in the stock cats behind them, the dB difference from 20' behind the car would be minimal.

I have an '08 with BBK long tubes and their high flow cat mid pipe. The prior owner installed GT500 mufflers which is where my exhaust volume comes from. It's not obnoxious unless my foot is in it. The mid pipe puts a little more heat into the shifter area so my tuner advised me to insulate. The BBK stuff gave me noticeable power, I find it hard to believe 7 RWHP. Installing the mid pipe also gave me a check engine light, which my tuner took care of. I also have a CAI, the Hot Rod cams, and the Ford box tune (not too familiar with it, it was already installed when I got the car at 29K miles). The car sounds great. Hemi owners have made comments like "I wish my car sounded like that".

You have to consider the whole package. You have an SC so cams are going compliment that and headers will compliment the cams. What's nice about running headers with a cam is that you can run longer duration without decreasing lobe separation angle, which is beneficial with any boosted application. Headers will be more beneficial to a boosted application with a cam than any NA combination. I highly doubt you will gain 50-60 hp with cams and hi-flows and even if you do, how much boost are you currently running because I would be afraid that would put me beyond the limits of the motor.
