Well good news... took pulley off just now. After driving it to work and around town... doesn't look like it rubbed at all... but now I'm only making 10-11lbs where I was making 14ish before all of this... wtf

And the pulley looks like it's bent... slight wobble to it :/

What size upper pulley are you running?

We never produced a 2.54. We may have made one for Jim. Did you get that from him?

The smallest we make is a 2.65. Any thinner than that and we worry about it.

I would get a real measurement on it before you make any choices.

We're not fans of anything under 2.65". That was probably from Jim. We will make him whatever he wants, but if anything goes wrong it is on him.

I ran a 2.44" but that was in the tvs which has smaller snout.

The 2.65" he has he got direct from Alex. Mario ended up with my old one which has been on two different blowers with zero issues. Was one of the first 8 rib 2.65" made. I spun my frankenblower with overdrive crank pulley and 7k rpm with it making 17psi lol.

I would run that pulley. You did not take much meat off it but that is just my opinion. I would be worried about the hub being compromised in your aftermath

Yea the aluminum that came with the kit like wallowed out and kept coming off.

Unless it was loose it can't wallow out. If I put it on, it wasn't loose.

As a rule I do not re-use hubs. In theory they should be fine to go on/off multiple times. But they are so cheap that it's a good idea to go with fresh ones each time.

Most evidence is pointing toward you having a non hub/pulley related problem.

I agree with that. Another way to look at it is this..

If you are running a steel pulley you would have damaged more equipment imo. I like the fact that the current setup will absorb the damage taking that stress away from your crank and blower etc. Blessing in disguise.

When other kits like Whipple go wrong (and plenty do) the blower normally is junk. Do some searching on that. Plenty guys with junk $3500-$5,000 head units (blower only) after something less severe than this. The whole dob kit does not cost that much lol

As far as the aluminum hub that was pressed onto the shaft from DOB I never touched it. It just wollowed out and came completely off which I believe is the result of the blower pulley not lining up with the other pulleys because of what seemed like a secret of the ability to hammer the shaft into the snout more. After that secret was revealed and having to shim the alternator bracket out with washers all is good. No thrown belts and such. And i made a steel hub to replace the aluminum one.
ok so that's done. .. fixed....

So now the question is why did the pulley "weld" itself to my snout? I would like to say the bolts came loose and the pulley was there fore loose and rubbed and rubbed onto the snout enough to "weld" itself and lock up. But I was stupid in my effort of investigating because I use a cordless 3/8 impact to remove said bolts.

So after machining the inside of the pulley and upgrading the supplied bolts with stronger ones with lock washers and red loctite yesterday was a success but with less boost.. 11 instead of 14? Why? Belt slip now? Blower harder to spin? Blower spins just like new with no belt on it by hand...

And to back track I made 18 lbs before with stock cams and stock manifolds.

The few issues I have seen on these setups and a "factor" if you will. When your idler pulley below the blower failed and the idler cut into the alt bracket is that when you started having issues with the hub? How many miles did you have on it before you started having problems with it?

The alt bracket thing that two people saw was a change that occurred after machine shop change and sight change in manifold I think. Jason would know more about that.. I could be way off. Either way that did not affect you in any way. The very first 5-6 production manifolds are still out and running with no problems. (Those are the only guys I keep in touch with). They were from the same run as yours I think

Secret? Huh?
