Do you guys ever use a buffer or some kind of electric polisher? I remember as a kid my dad would always "compound and buff" his cars using an orbital polisher with a cover he was always changing out.

I would if I had one. I made the mistake when I first did the GO of buffing OFF the wax. No, use a machine to put it ON, take off by hand. So now its all done by hand till I get a proper machine.

For a buffer try the Porter Cable 7424, easy to use. For the car shine go to Adamspolishes.com they offer a lot and show you step by step. It is worth a look.

For best results try to use a premium white 100% cotton towel that is made in the USA . Lesser quality USA and foriegn made towels have a polyester/nylon backing which can scratch/swirl the finish. Also be sure to cut off the finished edge since regardless of origin, nylon thread will be used which also will scatch/swirl.

I just used the Meguiar's one the other day for the first time and the junk that came off the car was unbelievable! How often do you think you should claybar a car?

Well, if it was that junked up, it wouldnt hurt to do it again with a fresh bar. How often is determined by your conditions. Is it garage kept? Daily driver? Are you in a polluted city? Does it see weather? Rain, snow, etc? Once year would be a good baseline. Twice if you daily drive in lots of weather with shitty polution. Its also dependent on how well you protect the paint afterward.

It's my DD that is garage kept. Not much pollution at all but it sees all sorts of weather since it's my only vehicle. I'll probably claybar it one more time this year after the summer then. Thanks for the input!
