So I was getting off the expressway the other day and was in 2nd gear. I merged over and floored it and when I went to shift in to 3rd, it wouldn't go in. I rolled to the stop light and could not get the car in to any gear. I finally forced it in to first and, with the clutch pedal to the floor, the car wanted to move forward on its own. I managed to get it to the train parking lot. When I got back from work, the shifting was a little easier, but progressively got worse as I drove. I made it home and the brake fluid was really low, so I topped it off. It drove around much better, but was still a little harder than usual to shift and reverse was still REALLY hard to get in to. The minute I got the rpms higher, the car became extremely hard to shift again. When I try to use the clutch pedal, it grinds and hard to shift. When I am actually moving and not shifting, you can't even tell anything is wrong...until I have to shift. If I just skip using the clutch pedal altogether, I can shift it fairly easily (at the right RPMs of course).

I'm trying to figure out if this is a clutch master cylinder issue or if I need to replace the entire clutch/pressure plate assembly.

Thanks!

I would crawl under the dash for starters and be sure the plastic connection from the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder isn't cracked. Sounds like the same exact issue a friend and myself had when ours went bad. If it is not that, it is probably your slave cylinder. But judging by what you are saying, I would check the clutch master cylinder first.

If the fluid is low then it leaked somewhere. Finding and fixing the leak is your first priority. The hard shifting is probably due to air in the system, due to the leak. Fix the leak and bleed the system and more than likely you'll be fine.

It isn't cracked, but I DID managed to pull the rod out of the master cylinder when I decided to pull up on the clutch pedal. Since I might've messed up the seal, I'm debating on putting in a 2013 GT500 clutch master cylinder now...thanks to the advice of a member here. I ordered an Exedy stage 2 clutch with the TO bearing and an Exedy flywheel to go with it. I was HOPING to return in and just do the master cylinder...

Being the idiot I am, that jumps to conclusions way too fast, I didn't even think of that until after I ordered all the clutch stuff. I'm going to check that tonight and see what I can find.

I put the 2013 GT500 cylinder in mine and love it.

Was it a direct replacement? I have the stock GT one and the GT500 one in my cart at White Bear Ford...but wasn't going to buy one until I knew for sure.

This is the sound that comes from under my car when I push in the clutch pedal. It's definitely from the outside of the car and not from near the clutch pedal inside the car.

Slave cylinder?

I am thinking you'll be pulling your transmission to have a look around if the noise isn't coming from the pedal box.

The video is fixed. I already started pulling the trans. I managed to round off the lowest passenger side bell housing bolt...I had to drill the bolt head off. I got the rest out easily enough. It took some creative use of multiple wrenches linked together to get those top two though. Today I'm removing the exhaust and shifter today and pulling the trans out tomorrow.

You got your monies worth, that one owes you nothing.

LOL that's exactly right. At least for the last owner. I bought it about 2 months ago.

Now if I could just find those damned Exedy flywheel dowel pins....
