So Advanced Auto Parts has a deal now on coolant, mainly Prestone Extended Life and Prestone DexCool (I think this is GM stuff). It comes out to about $7 per gallon jug.

What coolant is supposed to go in these cars? is it just best to stick with OEM?

If you have a 5.0 it takes the Ford "orange". I would just go to the dealer to be on the safe side. I payed $20.69 for a gallon. It needs to be a 50/50 mix with distilled water.

I use to use the orange DexCool stuff on one of my Chevy cars. It screwed the whole system up and almost blew the engine. i spent an entire day flushing the gunk out.

I have a 4.6L if that makes a difference. The stuff in my car looks yellow.

Interesting. I used the dexcool orange stuff in my toyotas for years and no issues there.

DexCool is fucking awful. I wouldn't put it near my Ford engines...my GM's are already cursed with it.

Yellow universal stuff should do you just fine.

Stay away from the universal stuff IMO. That stuff is only approved to work in less than 34% of all new cars on the road.

The only way to do it right, and to have a coolant that is approved by Ford...

You can only buy either Motorcraft coolant or Zerex G-05.

To my knowledge, these are the only two coolants that carry Ford's WSS-M97B51-A1 certification. I use Zerex G-05 in my GT500 during the winter months.

They have good information on their site to choose the RIGHT coolant for the job.
