Cooling System Questions

Guys,
Getting my parts together for both the engine & SC cooling.

I currently have these parts:
AFCO Radiator
AFCO Dual Fan Heat Exchanger

For the radiator, I figure I'll change the fan & water pump, too.
Water Pump...should I stick with belt driven, or go to electric?
Fan...is there any reason the FRPP is any better than the Mishimoto?
Fan...what size? 12" or 14"?

What water pump should I go with?
Tank reservoir...I think it was forum member "jew**" that has a tank that fills half his spare tire wheel well. I like that setup.

The pump really depends on the location of your water tank/reservoir. I currently have a custom "Dad's" tank in my trunk with a Rule 2000 bilge pump in it. It works well but something you have to consider is with a bigger tank, once you heat soak it, it takes much longer to cool it back down. I just purchased Jabsco 50840-0012 pump which I'm going to try and run in tandem with the Rule 2000 pump. Eventually I want to loose the big trunk tank and only have a small reservoir up front with the Jabsco pump.

If you want a big trunk tank I recommend reaching out to Dad's and discuss what you want with him. You give him dimensions and he can fab up whatever you want at a reasonable price. The in-tank pump will suffice initially but you really want a pump that can deal with some back pressure. It really all comes down to what you want to do with the car. I drag race so consistency and weight are very important so that is why I'm looking to get ride of the trunk tank. I want something that will cool back down quickly after a run and having 7 gallons of water/coolant getting warm takes forever to cool back off. If you just want it for glory passes and to stuff ice in it, then by all means the trunk tank is the way to go.

After years of holding out because I wasn’t sure if I was comfortable with an electric water pump I got one for my 2007. LOVE IT!

And if you get the lesser expensive Meziere without the pulley on it you can run a 15” shorter belt which reduces belt stretch on blown cars. Always a plus.

I don’t see any reason to change the fan. I’m still running my stock one and my car is a fusion reactor. The fan works great. As soon as it turns on the coolant temps drop right to the T-stat temp even in 95deg stop and go traffic. I’ve also used it at the track to cool the car down between sessions (car off, fan running) and it works great for that too. If I were going to change the fan the only one I would be looking at is the 2013 GT500 fan that is being sold through FRPP.

Depends on where you are putting it. If you can afford/find a place for it the 55gpm Meziere is a monster though. We have them on just about every car in the "fleet" around here.

The trunk mount tanks only really have an advantage if you are at the drag strip and putting ice in it constantly. On a street car that you are using as a DD it only has an advantage until you heat all the water in the system up (which takes only a couple of minutes). Once you have heated all the water up all you are doing is hauling a bunch of hot water around. Yeah the tank itself will shed a little heat, but not enough top offer a performance advantage.

IMO there is no reason to have a “big” tank on a DD/street car.

I like my DAD's custom tank also. The Rule pump is a piece of crap tho. I have a ton of ammunition to support that claim also.. and personal experience. That is a bilge pump and needs to stay in a boat lol. If you drive a boat then by all means...

But.. The Meziere 20gpm is a winner and easy to install right at the tank
