Update time. I made changes.

Video's from last year

So last year toward the end of the racing season I had a failure of one of my timing componants. A bolt, holding a timing chain tensioner sheared off from side load. I don't have pictures of it. I was lucky, my chain didn't jump a tooth, and it did fail either. It was noisy though, at first I though I lost a phaser. So me and 07 procharger (Ken). Pulled the engine and tore it down.

Also, my battery exploded. Burned my hood a little, and a little inside the engine bay. I don't know why, but the engine temps i saw well auto crossing were ~240..

out it comes.

on to the stand.

Almost stripped.

Done.

I decided it was time to get the stroker kit installed. But the car sat over the winter. I didn't do a thing until feb. I orded a pile of parts from JPC, big thanks to Shannon. A watts link and torque arm from Griggs, Their customer service is great. And I brought my bare block to Jesse at Fast Engines in edmonton for the machine work. Now he is a top notch guy. During a chat with him he started explaining how tolerances in end play of the crank were figured out and seemed to actually get excited about it. I had him hone the cylinders, torque down the mains and do a line hone, clean the block, and file fit the rings.

From JPC I bought:
Melling oil pump.
new timing gear including new revision phasers.
a RXT, new throw out, and new flywheel surface for a spec aluminum flywheel.
a new radiator.
C-clip eliminators.
GT500 clutch packs.
ARP main's.
Gaskets, seals.
WOTbox.
and some HT0's

Now for my timing chain tensioner bolts, I wanted studs. I may have been able to find ARP. But instead I went with some 12.9 grade 8mmx60mm set screws. Sounds like a bad idea, but they should stand up better then the stock stuff.

Both crank shafts.

Old vs new. And a beer cap.

Installing the ARP gear

Crank shaft, and mains installed.

Double checking the end play. For the record, this livernois 298 kit was all perfect, nothing needed modification.

The balance card.

Ring position guide.

Positioning the rings.

Rods and pistons going in.

Ready to go back in, all timed and good to go.

I bought the flywheel used...Yep the threads were damaged and needed to be chased.

Go in!

Evap delete!

Now some extra mods I did, the Griggs stuff, BMR lower control arms. Welded the axle tubes for fun.

Now its all back together and running. New battery, drycell.

I was in contact with Matt at the mustang shop in calgary for tuning. So far he has not provided me with a working tune. He can't get it going, but my old JDM email tune works just fine, so I do not think he is the guy to talk to. I am going to get a Lito tune. I hear more good things about him here from more people who own these cars then Matt. Matt's goal is just to get the car to run, not to run good. He is a value file tuner. He kept telling me my car in not tunable. pfft. JDM did it, over the internet, they don't even know what my car looks like. For what its worth, email tuning is the way to go, just because someone has a dyno doesn't mean they know how to tune a car. He even said he usually tells guys which injectors and maf to get and matches everything up so he can tune it better. can't just tell him 41# injectors he needs details. details JDM didn't have. Also by his recomendation I went return style fuel system for the planned 175shot of nitrous. I don't disagree with that. Its done.

This is The Mustang Shop...

anyway, thats all for now.

Well I'm hoping I'm around 400 NA. Should be 575 with the 175 shot. But on that dyno I put down 320/320 and 490/570. But his tune is fubar.

Nice build & good to see you are going to use Lito for tuning. You need a roll bar for that machine? I have a MM one for sale. :whistling:

Thanks guys, a roll bar might be in my future, but for the time being if I spend any more money I think the wife will hang me. Haha. She is more pissed about the $780 then I am.

And for the record, the ceramic coating I sprayed into my head didn't last so well. Its still on some valves but overall it mostly disappeared. lol. It was worth a shot though.

As far as building the engine, that was fairly easy after the machine work was done. Don't be afraid to wrench.

What kind of times do you put down at castrol ilw84u? And who did your tune?

10.9 @ 127. Never had a chance to get the car dialed in properly before I melted some pistons due to plugged cats. Eric Brooks tuned the car. Congrats on the little guy. I missed that on my last post.

Thanks, yeah my high flow cats plugged after 5000km. I don't run them anymore.

No problem Cory =)

Hope you get your tuning issues worked out, if not you can always bring it here and have Canadian Bacon tune on it. You wouldn't be my first Alberta visitor!

If you need anything else let me know.

Lito has been getting my tuning dialed in for me. Like everyone says, Lito's the man.

the tune isn't quite done but its good enough to autocross on!

(sorry for the shaky cam, i was busy and its on my phone, lol)

Me and my dad both race in my car against each other, we are pretty close alot of the time, but this time, my dad beat me with a 61.4 vs my 62.9. its not uncommon for us to be .1 of a second from eachother. he skunked me yesterday. I was running the stop box.

And a update about the griggs. It made a huge difference. instead of being in the middle of the pack for times my dad took 4th and i took 6th. vs 28 cars that day.
