so i got a customer of mine manage to completely destroy the rear end on his Track-Pack 2013 GT500..
it needs a new ring and pinion, torsen diff and both rear axle shafts..
pretty much everything has a tooth or two missing (and in the ring gear's case, most teeth!)

so the only thing intact will be the axle housing, which i'm thinking of welding or reinforcing (unless there's a straight forward 9" kit to swap in!)

now apart from a new differential, bearings, and strange or moser axles.. i'm thinking of getting the new ring and pinion gears cryo-treated.

any thoughts on that? any idea if anyone sells cryo-treated gears off-the shelf that's been tried and tested?

Was it low on gear lube? Ring gear looks blue like it got really hot before it gave way.

Yeah that axle package is quite nice.. i've used it on a 65 restoration.
now they say it fits 2005-2009.. no idea why not 2005-2014 (there are very minor differences from the factory but that shouldn't be an issue).. well apart from the differential cooler lines, but i can always drill and tap those.

the question remains.
to cryo-treat or not

nope.. fluid level and quality was perfectly fine!
the blue residue is from the assembly line where they checked the lash.. the car hardly has 13k miles on it.
customer drove the crap out of the car

I don't really see a reason for cryo gears...I have been beating the snot out of my car every week drag racing, launching off the trans brake and haven't broken a gear yet. I would weld the axle tubes and get a diff cover that has the bearing cap supports like the LPW.

Last time I checked there is no Torsen for a 9". That said, unless he is open tracking the car the Torsen is not the best diff to run. They are fragile and their only advantage is in HARD cornering.

Unless the car is running big fat drag radials at the dragstrip aftermarket axles are a complete waste of $$$. I wish I never spent the $$$ on the ones in my 2007.

If you want to do something cool titanium nitride the R&P.

I've seen guys locally get stuff to live after cryo they couldn't before. But the problem is that's a heavy car w a stick. That's the worst of the worst. Driver skill will go ALONG way in preventing that again.

well unfortunately i doubt there's much driver skill involved..
there's just the combination of high HP, sticky tires, and a driver that's constantly beating the crap out of the car launching it as hard as he can repeatedly :)
