Is it just me or does the accelerator pedal feel too low to effectively perform the heel/toe function for down-shift rev matching while braking?

Well....maybe we are (not good at it!)! I posted the question on TMS also...lets see what responses we get...

I had the same problem in my SN95 New Edge.

I heard of a mod that uses a zip tie on the pedal mechanism that raises the gas pedal a bit. I haven't had a chance to get back on the track so I haven't taken the time to try it.

Might be something that would help you guys out. I'll see if I can find a link.

It is a little low. The best advice is just to keep practicing and you'll master it in no time.

Driver: welcome to the forum!

Thanks,

I remembered what the mod was.

It seems the pedal could be lifted a little from where it normally sat. Whoever was doing the mod either placed a spacer or used a cable tie to keep the pedal from settling back down to the normal position. He was able to keep full throttle movement but it did bring the pedal up a bit.

Might want to take a look and see if you have any play in your pedal and if something like that would work for you guys.

I always seem to feel like my left foot is slipping off the clutch? Anyone else have this feeling? My car isn't a daily driver so maybe I'm just not used to driving a car with a clutch.

The solution I found for this is going with the ultimate pedals with heel/toes extention pedal.

These pedals for the brake and clutch instal by removing the cover first but the go fast pedal is plastic and therefore you need to instal it over the pedal therefore rising the go fast pedal compared to the brake pedal.
Plus the extention bring it closer to the brake pedal.

Here is their websites www.ultimatepedals.com . They are a little expensive but the quality is unmatched.

Bubba,

1st of all, welcome to the forum. Are you an auto-x/road course'er?
Do you use heel/toe yourself?

2nd, thanks for the link and mod, now I'm glad my car didn't come with the option that includes the aluminum pedals!

I've been practicing and pretty well have it figured out, but the wider GO pedal and at the same height as the brake pedal should for sure help.

Hello MrClean,
I use to be a road racer but never did it in my mustang yet.
The track are too far away from my home and the price kept me from trying it this year but I'm really hopping to go next year. For now I only play on the 1/4 mile something I discovered last season...
On the other hand I still practice once in a while that Heel/toe technique to stay in the groove until I get my car on a nice road track...

Cheers

I've always had trouble, but I attribute it to two problems: not enough practice, and size 15s.

I have a 14 wide shoe and I can't heel/toe to save my life in this car. I tried it several times to do burnouts at the track, but just manage to stall it. I started flooring it and popping the clutch. once the wheels are spinning I just use my left foot for the brake. doesn't help much on a road course i'm sure.

What's it cost to get on a closed course track?

I've started doing heel/toe and its a pain with the go pedal so low compaired to the brake. Iam thinking about getting some sparco pedals with the heel/toe extention and putting a spacer between it and the stock pedal before i bolt it down...iam getting better with the stock setup but it really is a pain...literally if you do it a lot lol.

When I just got my stang it seemed hard to do the Heel/Toe trick... but now I do it like taking candy from a kid.. u see the best way is when u apply brakes try to apply them abit higher than u usually do then just twist ur ankle like its holding the brakes and leaning low for the accelerator.. Im not sure I described it good.. But thats how I do it.

I brake wth the ball of the foot, and then use the right side of the foot to blip the throttle for the downshifts. I posted the pics of the installed UltPedals on a nother thread, but here the are again...Bubba, looks like we chose slightly different holes for the clutch/brake bolts. Did you have ti use a 7/32 bits like i did?
