I did something similar on my car about 2 years ago, and recently redid it after my supercharger was installed but only from the driver side... I have a aeroforce Interceptor gauge that reads Air Intake temps, and I noticed the 2" pipe that I am running helped cruising temps an average of 5-7* lower. However the biggest difference was in heat soak... to explain:
Normally when I useto accelerate hard, my Intake temps would go from 100* to 125ish. They would remain there for a good 5-10 minutes before dropping back down. Thats with cruising and just flooring it once to get up to speed on a highway, not racing or weaving! But since I installed a cooling tube, the temps still rise to about 125, but they drop back down within 20 seconds, which shows a definate improvement in cooler air being pushed into the intake. keep in mind this is all in FL weather, it hasnt cooled down yet, but I will keep everybody updated once it gets cooler!
