Hey guys,

My two buddys are going to be installing another transmission for me since I broke mine and think I should change my clutch while there doing it. They also think because my car has 70,000 miles on the clock and I just got drag radials, that my stock clutch will be done real soon anyway.

So I just want your thoughts on this since money is tight. If you think i should replace my clutch, what do you think of the spec stage 1?

Not sure of your power level but go with a Spec 2+ or Spec 3+, then go to jpc racing and get their braided clutch line which cost $70, and make sure you replace the stock slave unit while you are at it. I'm pushing 470rwhp to the tires and I have the spec 2+ it is holding very well. My car is mostly a DD but I do hit the drag strip and road course 4-5 times a year. I am in the process of installing the JPC line as we speak.

I'm running a spec stage 1 currently. No complaints so far. Make sure ou resurface the stock flywheel if you plan on reusing it. And replace the slave cylinder while your at.

I have intake/tune,xpipe, & 4.10's

I'd imagine im 300rwhp max. I have a high flow catt x pipe and I'm waiting on coming across some long tubes but all that will be done too. I'll prob also want some cams one day.

Do you guys think I should get a aftermarket slave cylinder and where?

Bullit- have you used drag radials w/ the spec stage 1?

I had the Ram unit but really for most applications stick with the stock unit, and upgrade the clutch line.

I ordered an Exedy 400 from BBR yesterday, very good pricing and will hold up to your needs. More and more people are getting this clutch and it comes with the slave cylinder, you will need to resurface your flywheel though. You just have to ask yourself, do you really want to have to pull your tranny in 10-20k miles to put a clutch in? I doubt it will last that long, then again, who knows, maybe it will.

He needs to replace to clutch why hes at it... But if he plans on staying around the power levels hes at then there is no need to upgrade. The stock clutch is more than enough at those power levels. They are very durable, just ask Matt D

well, i just put a 285/35 nitto drag radails the 555 version... and at 40,000 miles on my '05 it burnt the clutch... i didn't even make it out of the water box good and the clutch gave up... went to spin them over, poped the clutch and that was all she wrote for the stock one... i ordered a spec 2+ and the slave cylinder and throw out bearing... should have it in this weekend... but yes you need to replace the clutch and replace the slave cylinder as you have it out and save some headache...

That's what I'm scared of.

What brand slave cylinder did you get? is a throw out bearing a separate thing from a slave cylinder?

My car is a DD and I'll always wana keep it a "street" car. I plan to buy long tubes real soon and put that on my catted xpipe sitting in my room

In the Near future I want cams and maybe heads.

in the way future if I ever even bother...Maybe F/I

My two buddys help, well, they do the work and I watch and try to learn lol. So like you said, they don't want to have to do pull the trans out again and I don't blame them.

Is the above link the clutch your talking about? I don't see anything about a slave cylinder.

You think so? Even w/ 70,000 and counting? the stock clutch as been great w/ street tires but I'm scared of the M&H's LOL.

Yeah, thats the one, give John a call and he can hook you up with pricing. It doesn't say it in the description, but he can tell you everything it comes with and if you are going to need anything else.

haha, but i'm sure there isn't a 3.55 gear in your cars and your not on 18" drag radials... them 15's have more sidewall, takes some of the shock out from my understanding...

I picked up the 28" from rench lol.

About the F/I being cheaper, it prob is but I just don't have the money like that all @ once ever. I came across on this site a brand new set of FRPP heads the guy was going let go for $1500 but I just don't have the money right now. But the way I drive and the miles I have and will put on my car, I prob should build my motor 1st if I ever go F/I.

oh i thought he was going with a 17" or 18" drag radail... didn't know he was going with 15's... 2X" tall tire?

He has the M&H 275/50/17 DR..The stock clutch will be fine at his power level..

Many of the clutch problems I have seen are guys using too much brake during the burnout..That will eat a clutch in a heart beat. Learn to feather the brakes or get a line lock and the problem is solved.
