The rules don't get crazy about tech/safety until you break into 10s.

And as for a DD, 600-650 at the feet is perfect.

Technology is amazing. In the 80s when I was a teenager a 12 second car was a serious car. My car now is a mid 11 sec car and probably considered quick, not fast. back then I would have been da man with the current car. Now I'm just average lol.

If you are used to driving a Prius, and get behing the wheel of an '09 GT bone stock, that GT is going to seem very fast. On the same note, if you drive a bone stock '09 GT, getting behind the wheel of a 650hp Vette....that Vette will be fast. Now, the guy that drives the 650hp Vette...get behind the wheel of a 1000hp twin turbo Supra. That is fast. So where does it stop? When you are behind the controls of an F14?

I consider my car to be fast. It may not be fast for most of you, and that is fine. When I hit that throttle, I am gone. That puts a huge smile on my face.

I think in 05 a mid 12 sec NA car was fast but now a days thats nothing to do anymore. So IMO 11's would be a fast DD. <-- Just hope I can get mine there --

Actually it's 11.49 where the rules change!

I should have thrown in the roll cage part, because thats what I was thinking in my head when I typed that statement. Thats my cutoff for "fast" 10s and below.

11.99 - 11 is fast for any car
below 10.99 is just the braggin rights your car has that much power, because its not even needed to have fun or for any DD use.

This is just some thoughts that come to my mind when we ask what is "Fast" ???

I really think that it would need to be broken down a little more.

(1) "Fast" for a Daily Driver with Full Factory Functions and on Ford
...............Factory Tires off the Show-Room floor and running on
...............Pump-Gas no greater than 93-Octane.


(2) Or simply what is "Fast" for a Mustang period ???


If it is the number (1) above my thoughts are this.

If you own a Mustang with all the Factory Functions intact and it has the honest to goodness (Street Tires) on it front & rear.
And it runs on no greater than 93-Octane Pump Gas.

And it has been on a Drag Strip and ran FAST enought that it has to have at least a 6-Point Legal (Roll-Cage) per NHRA/NMRA rules.

It is a FAST Mustang for sure at that point.



Regarding the Number 2 selection above.

Just talking fast ...Daily driveable street car. For a pure race car we no there is no limit. This thread was just asking the opinion of a bunch of guys that know fast cars and what they consider a FAST street car. From what I get is if you put up a low 11 at the track and drive it everyday or it is capable of being daily driven than it is fast. Put down a 10 and your real fast....a 9 or lower your a stud.

So what do you consider fast for a DD car? Just wondering what different guys consider fast. This is just a personal opinion thread. ( if your car ran a 12 sec 1/4 at the track would you consider it a fast DD? etc)

IMO, there is a HUGE difference between a STREET CAR and a DAILY DRIVER.

A street car is something you take out on Friday and Saturday night that looks cool, sounds great, and runs hard. But it probably has no a/c, a gutted interior, has slicks and skinnies, a rowdy cam, smelly exhaust, has a splash of octane booster or race gas in the tank, has a big stall or a heavy clutch, etc.

A DD is something that you drive every day and still acts more or less like a new car. Tame exhaust, good driveability, no stinky exhaust, and a/c and heat is a MUST HAVE. If your daily doesn't have that, it's because it's a POS! It has to run on pump gas only. It only runs street tires; drag radials are okay.

Using that criteria, a fast street car is mid-10s and a fast daily driver is in the 11s. Of course there are many examples of cars that are way, WAY faster than that that meet the criteria, but this is the point where *I* consider them to be 'fast.'

It takes a ton of skill to get any car to run in the 12s on an OEM Ford tire. It's also dangerous. IMO, I wouldn't put that as a criteria.

A guy locally here has been 10.40's and drove the car to work every day, drove it 165 miles one way to the track with slicks in the trunk. Got there, swapped tires, knocked out a few 10.40's, swapped tires back and drove home. All done up here in this crappy thin air. Car was even used to go camping running down some gravel roads. Car was mostly stock including suspension (just had adjustable shocks), but stock springs, control arms, etc. It did get a built bottom end eventually, but my stock motor took a few hits at that ET with no problems.

High 9's to low 10's are easily possible in these new cars while having stock like comfort. Personally I think that kind of power isn't needed on the street though, just more to get in trouble with. 11's or 12's just isn't fast anymore though, lots of people with lots of power out there these days.

You need a new car for that? Haven't people been driving modded 10sec 03/04 cobras and LSx cars as daily drivers for years now with heat and AC?
