Rhino lining.........................

....................mines the same way though. A couple spots where there is spider cracking.

I have a Kaenen hood, still in the paint shop that cracked.

I am having it gel coated again to see if that prevents it in the future.

Just got my Kaenen painted a few weeks ago and it came out with tiny pin holes in a few small areas. The painter wants me to bring the car back in a few weeks after the hood has been through a few heat cycles before he blocks it back down and shoots it again.

I think its just the nature of the beast with fiberglass

I was kidding. Would never do that. Way too much texture in rhino lining paint. Really don't think there's anything that can be done. I've seen Corvettes with cracking. Aside from adding a flex additive (which presents it's own problems), there isn't going to be much that can be done. Fiberglass just has too much flex/expansion in it.

I dont understand why they would make them outta fiberglass if all they do is cause problems....i could care less about the couple pounds I save if it looks like crap

So between the two, is carbon fiber a better option when dealing with extreme temps(mostly heat)? I'm wanting a new hood so I can get rid of this factory scoop. Most likely will have it wrapped for now(matte black, saw another black 10-12 with a wrapped hood-looked good), maybe look into paint later.

I think it is unlikely that you are saving any weight as is. Fiberglass and resin is heavy stuff, as are most CF hoods on the market for the same reason. A lot of resin is used to bind and that makes stuff heavy.

Dry carbon would save weight because the resin is integrated with the carbon material so less is used but that is an expensive process because it involves heat and vacuum to cure properly.

The stock aluminum hood probably weighs less than any fiberglass or wet carbon fiber hood for our application. I can understand running a fiberglass hood if that is the look you are going for but for weight savings, I think you are wasting your time.

The best hood by quality and weight savings for our car would be the tiger racing hood, but that is a shell built off of our stock hood.

I can tell you that my Cervini Ram hood weighs quite a bit more than my stock aluminum hood. I was surprised at how much more it weighs.

I did have a fiberglass hood on my Dodge Neon. That was considerably lighter than the stock steel hood and didn't have any problems with that cracking the paint anywhere.

I've had my Kaenen hood sense summer 2011.. so she's been through the full summer heat > winter cold cycle and the paint still looks as good as it did when she left the paint shop.

Though the painter did tell me that in the years down the road it would most likely develop spider cracks. It's just the nature of Fiberglass hoods.

Weight: the hood felt acouple lbs heavier then OEM, but nothing substantial.

Has anyone had a good experience with trufiber hoods? If I was going to drop the money to paint this cervini hood, I would just get a trufiber hood in the style I like (hood came with the car when I bought it). I'm waiting for a reply from my painter on how he prepped it.

sorry to hear about everyones luck. have been looking at getting a cowl and id say the decision to spend the money on cf just happened.

There's a few vendors on Truforums selling them direct. It was my second choice. I've heard some guys having waving problems scared me to fiberglass, now I don't know. If mine cracks again, I will likely go to CF.

Carbon fiber hoods do have a slight wave to them, but I have owned 2 and it never was a problem, and will never even show unless you are doing 100mph into heavy wind. And even then mine never had issues. They look good and mine weighs a heck of alot less than the stock steel hood, so I say anyone that wants a new hood, go for it. I vouch for the VISracing hoods, dont know about the others.
