Thanks Paul. I was looking at curries site and I see they have a gasket for the 3rd member to the housing now. That must be newer than my rear end as I have no gasket. They RTV'd mine in. Im gonig to use RTV to seal it back up seeing as i dont have that gasket.

Any idea what the torque specs are on the nuts that hold the 3rd member to the housing?

I don't know off hand, but mine also looks like they just used black RTV silicone for the gasket.

It depends on how you have it built. I will give you an example.

My 8.8, which had a locker, but stock 31 spline axles, was 190lbs. The Currie 9 inch I replaced it with was 185 lbs. However, I had the 9 inch built with a spool, but also 35 spline axles, and an aluminum section right behind the 1350 yoke (its not the carrier housing, forgot what they called it).

Anyway a lot of people think the 9 inch is a lot heavier when actually its not, depending on how you have it built. The real question is, do you really need a 9 inch vs just having an 8.8 built.

I like the 9 because its bullet proof, and no need for c-clip eliminators because of how the axle bolts up. The 8.8 you need an "axle retention device" or c-clip eliminators to be legal at the track at 10.99 or quicker.

what about the moser products that jpc sells, how do they compare to the currie products?

I believe some people had quality control problems with them. I want the fab 9 that moser builds but I would talk to someone like JPC that has used them and get their opinion of them.

just search moser and you will find unhappy people everywhere. fitment issues, brackets dont line up, required to use a special lca or uca, ect. Then youll find people who tried to return it and get thewir money back and have to battle to do so.

Or you can get a currie, bolt it in in an hour or two, and be done with it.

Don't you have to use Currie's upper since it has a little offset?
