lemme ask you guys, im draining and replacing my oil today in the currie rear, its had a small leak since day one so im fixing it today. How much oil do these things hold?

Generally you fill the rear till the fluid starts coming out the fill plug on the third member.

I hear ya chuck, but i seem to remember Currie SPECIFICALLY saying not to do that on this rear end. Im going to use jsut the 3 quarts, Thats what they sell in their refurb sets too with a new gasket and nuts.

Thanks Paul. I was looking at curries site and I see they have a gasket for the 3rd member to the housing now. That must be newer than my rear end as I have no gasket. They RTV'd mine in. Im gonig to use RTV to seal it back up seeing as i dont have that gasket.

Any idea what the torque specs are on the nuts that hold the 3rd member to the housing?

You can use any commercially available Ford 9" gasket. We generally use the Fel Pro from out local parts supplier and apply a bead of silicone to both sides of the gasket (I apply a bead on the side of the gasket that faces the housing, put the gasket in place over the studs, then apply a bead of silicone to the third member and slide that in place on the studs)

Thansk Chuck. Ill see how the RTV holds up and if needed will break it apart and use a gasket at some point, but in my research lots of people seem to complain about the gaskets leaking vs just RTV, which seems to stop the leaks.

Thanks for the positive vote there White05gt. Makes me feel better about how i put it back together today. Ive never worked on a rear end before save for changing a diff cover on a 8.8, so this was new territory. Cant believe how easy it was. Maybe one day ill tackle a gear change, haha

No problem, I have changed them out quite a bit when i was helping a friend that raced. DOn't do what my friend did, he lost his grip, the 3rd member fell and cut off the finger tips of two fingers but they were able to sew them back on.

I left the exhaust pipes in for that very reason. I was able to rest it on the over axle pipes so i could let it go, turn it around and pull it out. worked amazingly well.

rearend

i also see that jpc sells Moser 9" assemblies and what not, how do they compare to currie 9" products?

Don't buy a Moser, they don't use the factory brackets on the axle tubes for the LCA,they don't fit worth a shit.I tried there rearend, they tell you after that you can't use LCA relocation brackets & that the factory bent parts from Ford are patented & they can't make them.I was so pissed i drove it straight back to there plant in Indiana from Ontario Canada! Then they charged me a re-stocking fee of $200.00,i will never do any business with them again. Its funny,Currie buys them from Ford direct & uses them. Some other guys on here tried Moser with the same problem, you have been warned! Buy a Currie,it fits perfect & work great.

We sell a custom built bolt in Ford 9" housing that is quite good. It is available in different configurations, with integration of the stock sway bar as well as having an option for an anti roll bar as well tied right into the housing. I am actually going to be assembling one going into a customer car this week that we had powder coated blue to match the vehicle.

We also have one that bolts/welds to the Ford 9" axle tubes. Not sure if it will work with others that the one we sell, but if the axle tubes are the same size, it should work.

There are so many different options available that we can't just quote a generic price. Give us a call and talk to Fred, and he can give you a price based on the options and features you want shipped to your door.
