Sorry didnt see it. Im thinking ABS may be a little flexable? I may be wrong..
Yeah its a little flexible but like 06Saleen said, the rods should help a lot. Even if it flexes under load, it should still work. When I have more money and time I will think about making one out of Sintra and carbon fiber. The Laguna Sega splitter is abs and it does flex but all of the 302S cars run em. The FR500S splitter also tends to flex.

How does ABS do with Heat? Wondering if it would melt with turbo hot piping that close to it

Its possible. If it were me, I'd put some heat reflective foil on the other side to protect it. It melted pretty good with my whiz wheel but it was creating more heat than I think the piping would subject it to.

I was told the Alumilite holds up good to heat but I haven't put it on yet so I can't say for sure.

ABS has a melt temp in the 460 degree range give or take 20 degrees ...most plated/painted OEM grilles are made of impact resistant ABS nowdays PC (polycarbonate) has a melt range in the upper 400's lower 500's roughly 20-30 degrees higher than ABS

A little update on my splitter project since I had time to work on it today:

I finally got the damn bumper beam off by drilling out the spot welds and using an air chisel to break the metal apart. Now I can take it to my local machine shop to have some brackets fabricated and welded on. I'll be drawing up the designs tomorrow and probably take them to him on Wednesday. I hope to have the splitter mounted by this weekend but I have a crap ton of other projects going on, modifying my engine harness and making a new lower grille to name a few.

Once I get this project completed I'll create a new thread with better pics and info on how I got it on. In the meantime, here's some pics of my mock up today.

you definitely gonna keep that nose planted with that thing!

I hope so! I need to trim it a bit. I want it to be 5" at its farthest point. Its like 5.5 now.

I'll also be fabbing a Nascar style spoiler after this as well to help balance it. I can't afford a wing right now so I'll take a little bit of extra drag.

Looks good, but I'd be concerned it's a bit thin/flimsy. Perhaps this was mentioned in an earlier thread, didnt' go back and read everything. You've probably read that you need to be able to stand on it and it support your weight - this is true. My splitter was made with a double layer of luan fiberglassed together, then painted with resin. So basically I had a 6 ply 3/8" thick piece of wood for mine. After two race weekends my strut mounts were bowing the plywood from the downforce created. My remedy was a piece of L-shaped aluminum along the leading edge, with the strut mounts picking up the aluminum to spread the load. So far so good....

The 1/4" abs is probably stronger than you guys think. It is flexible to a point but I think that once I attach it to my bumper it shouldn't move much at all. It'll be attached at the rear, the front with the rods, and to the bumper itself with a frame I'm making. I'll do the standing test to verify. If it ends up being too flimsy I have enough to make a second layer and I'll just sandwich it. Also, in the end this project is not for a competitive racer and its being done on a budget so its not going to be perfect.

Is that ABS or Sintra? There are precast fiberglass sheets used for wat walls at home depot. Epoxy one on each side of the Sintra and the sandwich is amazingly strong and ridged. You have to rough sand the Sintra then the epoxy will stick. ABS I don't no what you can do with that plus it is heavier than the Sintra.

Its ABS. Maybe I'll try the Sintra and fiberglass sheets next time. I could probably do the same with the ABS for the time being if it ends up being too flimsy.
