Hey yall,

I've been going back and forth for the better part of a year going to mechanics replacing Fuel pumps, Fuel Sending Units, and doing Stepper Motors myself on my 2005 Mustang with the Saddle Tank Design to figure out what is causing my faulty gauge.

Finally got an OBD2 scanner and I see "Fuel Sending Unit #2 open circuit."

How would one go about fixing this problem? Is it a DIY project? I don't think there is a fuse that is explicitly for the Fuel sending unit.

If not, can a regular mechanic do this job or will I need someone more well versed with car electronics. Thanks!!

Also I should clarify that Sending Unit #1 (I assume that’s the one with the pump) is reading fine in case that narrows anything down.

I am not an electrical wizard (more mechanical) but with a good Ford wiring schematic and voltage meter you should be able to test ground and current continuity at the beginning and end of the wiring harness from that fuel pump circuit. Comparing the values with OEM specs and when you have something out of range or non-existent then there is your issue.

Again there are so many more people on this forum with superior electrical expertise that can provide better input.

Please message me the complete VIN. I am trying to get some info out of Fords Workshop manual. Certain sections won't give any info with out the VIN.
