i like the idea of a long tube/midpipe combo as well..
just an FYI: i got a set of pacesetter headers to solve the '01 V6 mustang tick at startup (cracked header flange, they all do it)
the pacesetter header connected with the block at the collector flange. this created the same sound i was trying to correct, as the header did not completely contact the head! they knew this was coming because they sent these big 2" thick gaskets! (remember the OE gasket is metal, and about .0001" thick) Even with the massive gasket, you still couldn't get it tight enough.
and they sent bolts to replace all of the exsisting header studs, but as anyone that's been a ford tech knows, the less of those you have to remove: the better, as they don't mind snapping off flush with the head any day of the week.. so i chose to throw all the "new sweet'' bolts away.. i know why they sent the new sweets! cause the headers they sent me are so poorly designed they will hit a few of the OE exhuast studs.. so i ended up having to slightly modify a few of them to get the headers on.
bottom line: pacesetter header made for quite a headache for me, and they still tick like the original broke header did
