If someone could post the pics for me- I would appreciate it. Like I said, the rear always made some noise at low speeds. I installed the lca and brackets. I guess I hooked and finished them off lol. I drove it about 100mi with that noise.

Hey guys. Shop says I need to get a new diff as well. They said the best deal is going to be the ford racing traction lok diff from American muscle. Any input? I trust the shop, just seeing if there may be an alternative diff worth getting(or better deal lol)

Eaton Tru-Trac

Best diff money can buy.

(The diff you mentioned may be the same style. I'm not familiar with it.)

Just looked it up. Not the same. Get the one I mentioned. You'll thank me later.

You should consider a cover like this.

Has bearing supports.

Don't muck about. Get the Eaton tru-trac....and be done with it. NO CF clutch plates to wear out. The tru-trac works superb for both street, drag race, and road course + auto cross.

The tru trac will shift the TQ to the tire with the most traction..... up to a max of a 3:1 ratio. It's transparent in normal operation. I had the WL watts link + tru-trac installed on the same day. The difference is like night and day.

I went with the Ford Racing one when I had my gears installed, no issues here.

The problem with the traction lok..and any similar versions..is you still have the CF clutch plates that will eventually wear out. Rebuild kit is $100..then a lot of time and effort ( and $$ if somebody else is doing the work). Why bother? The eaton tru trac is zero maintenance..and uses no CF clutch plates, and has no wear items.

Sure u can get traction loks with 200-800lb springs in em for greater preload.... great for drag racing..but semi useless for going around corners.

IMO, the only differentials that are any good are the $1000.00 Torsen T2 (used in the 13-14 GT-500 as an option..and also an option on the boss cars) and the eaton tru trac (aprx $425 - $525).

Beware, there is a cheaper... $500 version of the T2..also called a T2. ( u will trash it if drag racing). There is also a T2R version, aprx $750... that has a 4:1 bias ratio.... great for auto cross..where u do 180 deg turns, but again will be trashed if drag racing.

Roush used a tru-trac on its 700 hp car at the oct 2012 sema show, the eaton tru trac is tried and proven. It and the torsen use helical gears instead of carbon fiber clutch plates.

The tru trac has a 3:1 bias ratio. The tq can vary up to a 3:1 or 1:3 ratio as required. IE: say 400 ft lbs of tq on the DS. U could have up to a max of 300 ft lbs on left side..and 100 ft lbs on right side ..or vice versa. (Normal traction loks are 1:1 ratio. )

If one side has slightly less traction than the other side, the tru trac will silently move more of the tq to the wheel with the greater traction. Now that works great for drag racing, road racing, auto cross, street use, and in the rain. Or in cases where the right side is on gravel..and the left side is on asphalt.

Tru trac. Get it from summit racing as they have a 1 year warranty. They will replace it free of charge if anything fails on it. No BS haggling.

Anyone else hear of the wave track true track torsen etc, gear type lockers failing under the strain of slicks and drag racing?

I understand the wav trac has a pair of clutch plates in there.... to be used if one tire is right off the ground. Ok, now you have a wear item.

I haven't heard of anybody destroying a wav trac, tru-trac or torsen t2 while drag racing with pre-heated sticky tires. If you did break one.... about the only option left would be a spool or locker, or e- locker..or a 9" rear end.

Plenty of times. Amazing how many people suggest a tru-trac for drag racing. A helical gear set up is the worst thing to run on the strip. They are not made for the rigors of launching. I know many people have them and use them on the strip, but that doesn't mean they are built for it. The fact that the tru-trac holds up to this abuse is a testiment to the quality of the part, but get a rear end that is well designed for the intended use.

If you're not wanting to run a spool or locker, go with an Eaton Posi or Auburn Pro.

So what is the intended use of a eaton tru trac?

IMO, street cars...with weekend use at the drag strip, auto cross, and road courses. I believe eaton used to use just 2 x helical gears per side. Then went to 3 per side..and stronger alloy too.

The tru trac is a good all round general purpose differential...with no CF plates to keep replacing. If you like going left and right..it's the ideal ticket. On the street, even with sticky tires..like drag radials... the DR's will still spin in 1st gear with enough TQ. You don't get to pre-heat DR's on the street..and you don't get to let a bunch of air out of them on the street either.

If you are a hard core drag racer... use something more optimum for that application.
