Hot Rod Cams with no Tune...

Is it possible,

If I install some Hot Rod cams and drive around a few hundred miles (Freeway/Street) without a tune for the Cams... Will my 05 GT survive or even run well?

I got the unfortunate news that my handheld tuner manufacturer cannot provide me a tune to accommodate the use of Hot Rod cams, they told me Ill have to go to a Diablo Capable Tuner with a Dyno in order for have it properly tuned.

So Im checking to see if its safe to drive with the hot rod cams installed without a tune designed for the Cams.

The best i could do is continue to use the tune i have currently installed which accommodates my JLT V3 CA-intake and Off Road H pipe. Is that good enough for now or not?

Thanks for responding Wes, Im using a DiabloSport Predator. Its a bit of a Dinosaur but its still supported as far as Custom tunes when it comes to Cold air intakes and other minor tweeks.

Diablo lost my business for life many years ago. I had a Diablo tuner for my pickup. The battery went dead on me one day and when I put a new battery in I lost the tune. Diablo wanted $150 to unlock the unit so I could put the tune back in the truck again (until the next time the battery went dead). I just left it stock and threw the tuner away. Fucking thieves.

This would not be advised. I wouldn't want to spin it any faster than I had to.

The are technically "no tune" cams, says it right in the description. Wont be optimal, they power they add comes from the tuning.

Thanks for the input RocketcarX, i guess my concern aside from blowing up the engine, if i can get away with driving it without a taylor made tune for the Hot Rod cams, then ill feel ok with driving it but if its going to be bucking and backfiring then i'd rather not drive it without the proper tune.

ideally you would not drive the car if at all possible. I would order an SCT tuner, even the canned AM tune will get you by until you can purchase your tunes from Lito. It's sort of the order it has to happen in, anyhow.

Instead of spending money twice from paying for a canned tune and a remote tune, you can buy the SCT handheld (a used unlocked X3 can be bought for less than $200 now) and a wideband to get it ready for remote tuning. I don't know what you mean by your data logging isn't good enough but if you have a laptop already, you just follow the tuner's directions and record while you drive with the laptop hooked up. Then you send the log to the tuner. There will be some back and forth as the tuner makes adjustments but that is to be expected.

Or you can have it dyno tuned from a local shop. You should be able to drive to one without a tune.

A Lito tune IS THE BEST!
Yes you can drive it, but don't get into it really heavy-footed. Once you get a proper tune, it will make you smile; you'll feel the power come on around 3500 rpm or so

Why do you even want to drive it without it being tuned properly and why woud you even think about going WOT without a tune. Not understanding your train of thought. Your spending time and money to mod your car, do it right. Don;t be silly or impatient.

boss and sky, your right, i was planning on jumping the gun as soon as the cams were delivered but i was planning for the worst case scenario where for whatever reason (not money) but where I install the cams and am not able to get a suitable tune that same day for it and i end up having to wait another week for a day off of work to take care of it. I can resist going WOT if the cams are installed without a suitable tune, i was only asking should the need arise like having to make an evasive maneuver on the 101 or 10 freeway. Im sorry I caused such concern that i would require me to detail my work schedule and train of thought in order to get some opinions on the subject.
