Just curious, How much boost can you get out of a 2.3 whipple before they start producing too much heat? I am assuming somewhere around 20 lbs?

Mine starts to lose effiency (less power per psi) at around 16. It still builds power with more boost just not as much. An example would be going from 15 to 17psi on gas only gained 22 hp.

20psi is easily attainable with one of the 2 10rib belt drives out there, either the Steeda or the Whipple. I would say 22-24psi with the help of meth for cooling purposes is the maxx these blowers can crank out before becoming inefficient. If i remember correctly, there was a guy running 23psi and making close to 700rwhp on a Whipple 2.3 awhile back. Just dont remember where i saw it.

BTW, What did you wind up putting down at RealSpeed?

PM sent. Numbers were 452/419 on a mustang dyno with a very conservative tune as requested. I hit 9.5 psi and will up the boost during the summer. Most likely will buy an aluminator this winter

I actually found this on Whipple's website:

http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/product.asp?ProdID=1162

According to that Chart, Our 2.3 Blower, which is model # 140ax, maxes out at 30psi. I dont know how true that is, but thats what it says.
Trying to run a 2.3 at 30lbs would be like running a m90 at 15 pounds. Realistically I would stop at 20lbs. Maybe 22 with meth. On pump I would stop at ~17. At some point the whipple inlet is going to become a restriction, as well as the stock throttle body. op how much power do you want? I'd rather settle for 575rwhp at ~16lbs than trying to max everything out.

Yea, for sure, 30psi out of the 2.3 is overkill. I dont even know how that would be reached. As for the inlet, I know JPC just came out with a custom fabbed sheet metal setup that looks interesting. Im wondering if and when Whipple will release the 2.9 for our cars.

I doubt they ever will. People have been saying that they would ever since 2008. Although it would be badass if they did. 2.9+25lbs+race gas=serious power

Yea man, i doubt they will. The only other option is to run a custom 3.4 setup, but ive heard its a TON of work that im not really willing to get into. With the 2.3 on meth or race gas, with the right supporting mods, i think 700rwhp is attainable.

If you have a roush tvs blower you could swap the compressor for a 2.9 or even a 4.2 if ya wanted. I've been seriously thinking of swapping next spring after I get my tax return.

A 4.2L blower on a 3 valve. LOL good luck with that.

The bolt pattern on the lower intake is the same as a gt500. So in theory any compressor that could be swapped onto a gt500 could be used on a roush tvs lower intake.

Why not? But I was talking about swapping to a 2.9 or 3.4.

It would be overkill. A 281ci 3 valve would be hard pressed to spin that blower to the 23+psi that that big of a blower is meant for. Not to mention the stress that kind of a blower would put on the engine. A 2.8 or 2.9 would make much more sense.

But what if there was nothing stock about your motor? Just curious, but with a 302 forged shortblock, and comp beehive high load valve springs, these motors can spin 7500+rpms right? Don't murder me for asking, just trying to see your point.

The Blowers that are for the GT500 don't utilize snouts unlike the blowers for the 3v's. There are instances where guys have bolted on the Whipple 3.4 from a GT500 on a 3v, but there was alot of custom work done.

I don't get what you're saying as far as utilizing snouts. If the lower intake on a roush would bolt right up, all that would have to be fabricated is pulleys to make them all line up right?
