How to diagnose rod knock vs valve train knock?? Sigh, tired of that car...

...might be worth sending the next change to Blackstone.

I have, there's moderately high iron levels in my oil. It's the oil pump, or the phasers, IMO. Can't really figure it out so you just run it!

If you have a bent rod it is likely the rod making contact with the block or well.. bottom of the cylinder wall. How do you know this for sure?

Here are some pics:

Piston:

Crank, piston is hitting crank 2 times per revolution, so 2 damaged spots!

Rod, kinda hard to see, but....it's bent for sure.

well.. yup there is your problem. That was a weird way to bend but at least it did not break! You saved yourself some heads, valves, crank (maybe) and block. Not a horrible thing and certainly could have been worse!

Ordered:
- frpp 3v head gasket changing kit
- boss rods
- saleen cp pistons + pins and rings
- main and rod bearing from sealed power
- oil pan gasket, water pump gasket, front and rear main seal
- crank washer and bolt, main bearing cap bolts.

What else? I think i covered almost everything by the threads i've read
Are dowel pins really necessary?

This is getting to cost me $$$$$

2012+ boss 302 mustang rods. 169$ set of 8 with bolts, almost same caracteristics as gt500 (read that somewhere)

That's what I thought - but I extinguished the idea earlier because I thought surely the new 5.0 parts wouldn't be the same as our 4.6 stuff.

Great news!

Where are you getting these parts? I might order some shortly.

Pistons too? Neat, I'll call him next week. Need oxygen sensors anyway.
