So I decided it was time to get agreed upon value insurance coverage for my 2007 Mustang SGT. Sent a list of all mods to my agent.

Holy shit Travelers just canceled my collision and comprehension cause of my NOS

No one I can find with touch it with the NOS, Hagerty, Grundy, Hancock, JC Taylor, K&K and American Modern, to name a few I have called

Does anyone have insurance on their car with NOS with the insurance company actually knows it is on the vehicle ?

If so who ? I got 3 weeks to find a company or uninstall it and supply photos and proof.

Thanks

dependent on the state, it may be illegal to have juice in your car on the streets. each states vary by law though, so check with your local JOP

Why would you tell your insurance you NOS? Is that like a disease or something? Now if you where to tell them you had a Nitrous kit in your car….that would be dumb.

Uninstall it and provide photos. Put it back later, this time keep it to yourself. Good insurance will cover the mods in a collision regardless. I have Farm Bureau and they covered anything damaged on my car, Cervini hood and all.

+1 for Farm Bureau.

In 2005 I built a show bike. Insured it for actual value. Made one premium payment. It was loaned to the company that did the chrome work. They took it to a bike show in New Orleans. While there, it was stolen, never recovered.

Met with the Farm Bureau adjuster, he said "well...this is by far the largest check I've ever written for a motorcycle." Then he strokes out a check to me for $40,000 bucks.

I believe its illegal in NJ for a street car to have NOS on it. As I remember wanting to put a 50 shot on my car before the mustang and when I looked it up for insurance I found it was illegal

I just looked up some of stuff I found when looking at getting NOS in NJ. Its for race cars on tracks only. And must fill out a special permit to transport it on your track only car.

That is probably why they are dropping you, you have it on a street car. Laws very from state to state but am assuming most to all states it can't be on street cars.

I work in the business, and insurance companies view NOS as an indicator you do street racing.

I'm not saying that is fair, I'm just saying how it is.

The last company I worked for wanted us to report cold air intakes for the same reason. I just got creative at either hiding them in under-hood photos or ignoring them completely, because that's just silly.

Did not tell my agent on purpose. I fucked up when they asked for a list of mods. She than like a dumb ass shopped it without realizing NoS is not good in the insurance world.

Gonna have to pull it and go with a Supercharger.

ddavidv is correct...

I would also like to add...

How many folks have actually read the policy they have? You know, the small print and such?

Bottom line... There is language, to the effect, that says something like... You are required to tell us about the risk, we offer a premium, you pay. If we find out later that we had not been informed of the risk, partially or in its entirety, we reserve the right to deny any claim directly related to the unknown risk.

So just to "Tell" an insurance company one thing. Then do another. Leaves you running the risk of them not making you happy. Could be them simply not offering to pay for portions of a loss (As long as the "Not covered" item was not the peril) to paying the claim without any problems, to then turn around and cancel you at your next renewal. All the way to not paying the claim and canceling you.

And just so you know. Nearly every insurance company does ask (In all those questions the agent should be asking you) have you ever had your insurance non-renewed or canceled. Yes or No.

And that can be a real problem...

Never in my life has an insurance company asked me for a "list of mods". I think you asked for it, lol.

I agree my fault but for Agreed upon value insurance with Hagerty and such she said they need photos and a list of mods. I was asking for a value of $60,000

When I insured if with All state and travelers for "normal" insurance obviously mods were never mentioned.

So you are basically wanting to insure the mods? Is it like a full blown show car? 60k is so much money for a GT. I've never had those specialty insurance deals you mentioned, I'm curious as to why that route, I mean, is it just because you were dropped over the nitrous kit installed or were you looking to make that switch before hand? you could consider my car show level with it's current paint job and body upgrades, but my normal insurance is putting it back just like it was.

Went that route because I have that much in it and was told if it was wrecked I would only get replacement value of a 2007 GT $18,000 - $20,000 at the most.

What did American Modern tell you? Car to new? Daily Driver restriction? Or was it just the NOS that is the issue for most of the companies including AM?

And have you tried Mapfre insurance?

Now it makes more sense that it's called "agreed upon value", that list is not joke.

You're not supposed to look at how much you spend on your car. It's like a golfer counting up greens fees over the years. And most of our mods are simply replacing stock items, so you need to subtract the replacement value of the stock item you're replacing which will negate most of the cost.

Including silly items like motor oil in your list makes it virtually useless. The brand of oil you use at oil changes does not count as a mod.

There are three types of coverage's out there for vehicles... Unless otherwise "Defined" per that contract...

ACV... We all know this one. Buy $55k car, if wrecked two years later, only get "Good" trade in value to low Kelly Blue Book. Might get $30k-$40k

Agreed Value... You agree to pay a premium, the insurance company agrees that the value at the time you insured it is that value. If wrecked, they start at that value and deduct use, wear/tear and market changes. We do not always get the $55k we pay for. Might only get $48k

Stated Value... You say it is worth $55k. You get $55K at the time of loss as long as you are still paying for that premium and the insurance company did not send you one of the notices in the mail of them reducing the value.

Agreed it is silly to include oil, light bulbs, etc in the mod list (just kept a running list) Should have read it and edited before submitting to the insurance. Folks

Also you are correct swapping parts could/should deduct what I sold the oem part for from what I paid for it.

American Modern said no NOS on a 2007 Mustang.

Guess I am really looking for stated value versus agreed upon value

Just an FYI... Stated value is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hard to find... And not cheap. This is why "Most" insurance companies that do offer more than ACV stop at Agreed Value.

Quick example, not at all accurate...

If ACV cost $1200 a year than...
Agree Value could run $1600
Stated Value could run $2200

Stated value has almost disappeared from the market because 90% of all shoppers focus on the cost of insurance, not what the coverage will do at the time of a loss.

Buyer focus on the extra $1000 cost, not grasping the cost of $$ lost at a claim.

Not to mention... Stated Value is really only for a small group. Most buyers "Use" their vehicles and use reduces value in 98% of every vehicle.

When buyers step out of the "Masses" and want to protect what they have created, those buyers have a hard time finding the insurance they are looking for.

I would be offering this company to you as an option to at least start at... http://www.corvetteinsurance.com/why-leland-west/nationwide.cfm But they are not in NC...

Also... It is not unusual to learn from those insurance companies that do offer AV or SV they have mileage restrictions or add on value limits. SO please speak with an agent who specializes in what you need, and not a producer...

If you're going to deduct the value of the stock parts then you need to compare apples to apples. New cost with new cost or used cost with used cost. You can't ask for the new cost of the aftermarket item minus the used cost of the stock item, not an equal comparison.

In an accident the regular insurance covers replacement cost of stock items. If you have an aftermarket item and want it covered, then you should compare the new cost of the aftermarket item to the stock item. If the aftermarket item is more, then you want additional insurance to cover the difference. If the aftermarket item is less than the stock item then you're already covered.

I think if you spend some time researching the replacement cost of the stock items you've removed from your car then you would be greatly surprised at how little value you've added.

Gotcha I now am seeing where you are headed and the logic behind it

Appreciate all the input
