I just finished correcting the paint on my car with M105, in bad spot, and M205. The car looks good but I have read that you can really make the paint pop it you jewel it. I have read a lot of different opinions on the correct way to do this and hope I can get someone to give me a recommendation on the correct way to do this. Here is what I think I should do but as stated I am not sure.

Porter Cable set to 4
Red (soft) pad
Medium pressure, medium motion
PO85D polish

I have blue and white pads but if I am right I should use the softest pad I can.

TIA

BTW, I could never do this for a living. I have 25+ hours in getting all the minor scratches fixed. By them time I am done I this project will take me as long as putting on the KB.

Jeweling is basically using the softest pad available. The lake country blue pad is fine, although they do make a gold jeweling pad which is a hair softer. Some also like the hydro tech crimson.

Speed 3-4 on a pc or 3 on a flex with medium pressure let the abrasives work themselves in as the pad will have zero cut.

Menzerna po85rd is my favorite jeweling polish. It is labeled as extremely low cut.

Thank you. I did this yesterday on the hood and it looks very good. The only issue is since it looks so good I found some small scratches...

I hit the problem areas with 205 and will redo the PO85rd tomorrow. I am almost out of 205 and was thinking or ordering either super intensive polish (PO83q) or power finish (PO203). Any recommendation? I will always finish with po85rd.

Thanks again.

You just use enough pressure to slightly bog the machine down some.

You can try going from M105 right to PO85RD but only if you use a lesser than recommended pad on the M105 (LC White/Hydro Tangerine) whereas M105 typically wants you to use a LC Orange / Cyan Hydro.

Power Finish is a rather decent combo, here is what I typically do with Menzerna depending on the clear coat type:

Power Gloss (LC Orange / Hydro Cyan)
Power Finish (LC Grey / Hydro Crimson) You have the option to go back over again with PO85RD and a Jeweling pad/finishing pad if you wish to use a more agressive pad with Power Finish, you will typically need to do a 3 step if it is a black car.

or

Super Intensive Polish (LC White/Green / Hydro Tangerine)
PO85RD (LC Grey / Hydro Crimson)

SIP is not a substitute for M205, it is too aggressive. 106FA is pretty equivelant to M205. Nice thing about the 105/205 combo is the non diminishing abrasive so the polishes will work as long or as short as you need them to.

Timely thread. I have a black 05 and I am going to detail my car this weekend. My plan was to:

Wash
Clay
Menzerna Intensive Polish applied using a Porter Cable w/ LC CSS orange page
Menzerna Final Polish II applied using a Porter Cable w/ LC CSS white pad
LSP-Zaino Z2 applied by hand

I have Meguiars M102 for stubborn swirls.

Seer, anything that can be improved upon?

you can jewel it, as a third step if you want, using menzerna po85rd and a grey pad.

I'm not a zaino fan, much better looking/longer lasting sealants out there as well.

I’ve got a brand new grey pad, so I can try it. I’d just have to buy p085rd

I have the older Intensive Polish and FPII in the white bottles. Did the formula change?

Also, what would you recommend for a moderately priced LSP to replace Z2?

Jeweling the paint with a grey/po85rd won't remove much more of the defects but wow will it make the paint pop more.

You're a fan of sealants, so try Chemical Guys Black Light.

You can also try one of the new wipe on walk away sealants like Optimum Opti-Seal which get terrific reviews as well and great durability.
