Kooks Headers - Dyno Results

I'd like to see a dyno of a 5.0 with OEM Tri-Y's and cat deletes vs. LTH's.

The Tri-Y's look like they would flow very well.

Anybody gots one of these dyno's as a comparison?

I just assume if you're modding your 5.0, regardless of the mod for the most part you have to tune it in order to have the car run right and extract the most power from given mod.

Umm, wrong. For example if you're running an off road midpipe and switch to longtubes with an off road midpipe there is no retune needed and no more power to extract. And the car will run fine. That's what the front o2's with wide bands are there for.

Most guys don't have the time or money to do the comparisons. Shops in MN are so busy right now, they would think you were nuts for asking. They want your shit on and tuned and out of the way for the next guy.

In other words, taking a dump on a regular Joe for not spending the money is pointless and not a little mean spirited.

Here is how to solve the comparison issue:
1. Dyno the car with stock headers and a tune.
2. Make exhaust changes and re-dyno the car with no other changes made.

You can do this without spending anything more than another dyno session. Break it up over a few weeks to have less impact on the pocket and little impact on scheduling.

If you just want to compare Kooks add-on, here's my graph from 10 days ago..tuned car first then with addition of Kooks. These are 1-7/8 on an NA motor...3/4 would have (or most likely should have) produced a slightly better result. Down-low torque the best change!!

Do you have any other before header pulls? That sharp dip around 3500 is suspect of a TQ limiter or some other anomoly. Was the converter locked before that RPM? The rest of the graph is fine.

Anyway, a good example of where some track comparisons between the different setups would be beneficial.

Way back in the beginning...baseline.. Gus did tell Matt (Steeda Mechanic) that the spike was when the converter locked. Cant disagree with track vs dyno logic, but I can tell you that the car really kicked in where you see that on the graph, as opposed to before where I had to wait till 4k to feel the car pull.

Hey guys finally got my Kooks Longtubes installed and did a before/after dyno pulls done the same day. The car was basically stock. Only had a catch can and Borla Atak mufflers installed.

Stock it put down 355hp, after LTs and tune it put down 404hp.

Nice gains, but to be honest, the headers and tune gained ~30hp at the point where your stock rev limiter cut in. The next ~20hp came because the tune allowed you to rev higher. Regardless, that is a nice gain and more than I would have expected on an otherwise stock car.

Yes, you need to get it revised to turn the rear O2's off.

Sorry, I just saw this. Yes, what JeffK said. I had my initial tune at Steeda and the headers installed there also, so they just did a revision on my tune...good thing I did, because my 2-year tuner died when Steeda was trying to flash it with updates, so they just gave me a new SCT

If I had gone somewhere else, I would have been screwed.

Never go by dyno numbers....track comparisons are the ticket.

As we see in this thread there are many variables that are unmentioned. For example, un-tuned car, stock headers, didn't dyno past 6K RPM probably due to a governor.

With the headers and a tune, we see massive gains. Well no shit.

How about a tuned, no headers comparison with a tuned, headers comparison. You will see that gap shrink quite a bit.

Very invalid comparison IMO.

BTW - no tune adjustments needed on the Coyote platforms when making exhaust changes outside of turning the rear o2's off.

Exactly. The tune is picking up the 25-30 of that 50 hp folks. The headers are worth about 20. Not a good bang for the buck.. Thats for sure

Sounds like a generous dyno...different day/different dyno/different da...average coyote puts down 360 stock I believe

headers aren't just for power, they do give you power, but they also give you sound

when you spend $1000-2000 for a set of wheels that you like better, it doesn't make any more power on the car, but it gives you a visual effect you like.

headers will make power on a car, and they will give you IMO a much better sound, but sound is an opinion, some power love the sound of LT's, some don't care

Not a manual. Should be 370-390 rwhp bone stock. Mine did 383 rwhp stock and I know of a few in the area that did 390-405 rwhp bone stock.

...and the extra RPM is picking up another 10 or so of that 50hp leaving 10-15hp from the headers.
Why would the dyno operator cut off a coyote at 5900? This seems like it was done on purpose by the shop to try and "amaze" the customer with unrealistic gains. Heck, they ran my 3V to 6200 on the dyno.
