With this big of a coil, the water is ice cold within 1 minute so how is that heat soaking the car? The resevoir is ice cold by the time you drive from the lanes to the burnout box so how is it counterproductive?

Yes, if it had to be running for awhile, then I could see your point and it would be more of a street only application, but I'm expecting it to be 60 seconds or less with the set-up I am doing. There's no way it would offset underhood temps in that short of time.

Hell, my car has to idle for 2 minutes before it will run because of the way the motor is built and my punched out injectors. My car hates running cold and runs best after 160º. I never drive my car under 160º water temp.

But even for the guys like you wanting to run ice cold engines, there's no way you're getting the car too hot in the 1 minute it will take to freeze your water.

Question for Paul.
I noticed you mentionted (twice) about the drain handle being mounted upside down so it could be opened and closed properly. I guess I am missing the point. Why does it have to be upside down to open and close properly? If you and Ed have the same setup then why is his mounted 180* off of the way yours is mounted?

I don't run the motor "ice cold".. but I do try to drop it down to about 140 in the pits. By the time I get to the front of the staging lanes its about 160. And it's about 180 after the burnout when I stage. That seems to be the temp it likes. If I had to guess, there wouldn't even be 1 minute of running time during all that.

Bottom line, I'm still not sold on the idea of a freon system... maybe someday, but not at the moment. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see your system in person someday in the near future.

Good question. I just assumed that they were two different styles of valves... one left-handed and one right-handed per se.

Yep - we have similar set-ups and this is what it is. My car will stall if I try to drive it ice cold. My injectors are punched so they are always flowing (leaking) no matter what. My pistons need to expand as well and the huge maf also comes into play. I'm not complaining though, I like the car runs better warm cause it's a ton harder to keep it ice cold than to keep it warm...lol:bigbeer:

Make no mistake, I'm not 'sold' either. I don't know for sure what the 4X coil size is going to do yet. I'm just guessing and it may very well turn out to be a street mod and just 'help' at the track and not eliminate ice completely. I don't know - but I do know it's worth waiting a couple more weeks for and see the results...

FWIW for the drain on Ron's car we tied into the return lines so the pump actually pumps the water out of the tank. It empties in a hurry.

because if mine were mounted right side up---to close the valve, the valve handle would hit the wall of the spare tire well. Instead of upside down you could rotate it 90 degrees so closed the handle would be pointing straight up.....get it? And Eds is not 180 degrees off of mine---if you look his is tilted to so when closed the handle does not hit the side of the wheel well.

Well I guess that would make sense if the valve stem is only keyed so the handle will go on in one direction. I just thought there was more to it since you pointed it out twice. Guess I over thought the situation.

I forgive you. We all make mistakes. HAHAHA. Actually I didn't realize I mentioned it twice.

My car is at Adam's shop right now, and when it comes home, it will have a trunk-tank in it. :thumb:

I was going to wait a while, but I needed to take the car to him for something else. So I figured I might as well get it done while it's there.

And now I'm thinking about moving the battery to the trunk, too. That would be another 45 lbs behind the rear wheels, instead of in the engine bay. I have some time off during the holidays... so I guess I should start getting the parts I'll need. :thumb:
