one things for sure...there will be plenty of room underhood left. those pushrod smallblocks are tiny compared to the SOHC/DOHC motors.

It looks like the answer to your question here is "no, nobody has any experience with it". I'd look in the LS1 swap section of LS1tech if I were you. Lot's of info there and if it has been done, which I'm sure it has, that is the most likely place to find it.

There is somebody on this forum that was selling all his Modular stuff and going LS1. I can't remember his name but he's around. I think his forum name is tamatt or something like that.

Me personally, I'd build one like SherrodMustang has built. Watch the video. That car is STOUT!!!!!!:thumb:

You'd prob make power for less and do it safer in the short term. However that totally aside. If you think you need an lsx, you could probably sell the car and get a vette of some kind for less. If you put an lsx in the stang, I hope you like keeping your car for a long time. The amount of resale value youd likely get for that swap would decrease dramatically, below what some of us will probably get in the future since we used ford parts. Basically, I would seriously consider just keeping an eye out for a used c6 you might jump into, if you want serious na power. You'd save yourself a lot of headache in the long run that way.

Talking of sacrilegious and mental LS1 swaps, I just got back from the workshop where I was helping out my mate with his E30 project...

Yeah, but that ~$3,000.00 turns into $~7-8,000.00 when adding a power adder. Plus most people run that combination. Plus this idle is superior to any modular I have run across.

I think the part that may not be evident in the cost is all the little things that will need to be made or changed to make the swap. From the k-member you mention to motor mounts, wiring, PCM, clutch/trans etc. while it may be a unique and cool thing it's going to be a big project IMO.

Putting in a mod motor will be much simpler to do and in the end less costly if you consider the expense, time, effort and frustration.

I have been flirting with the idea of running an LS1 or preferably an LS3 if I could find one cheap. These motors, the LS3, are making 430-450rwhp with I/E. I know it is sans religious for our heritage but dropping 4,500 on an engine that can take 600rwhp, is light, and can make serious power with bolt-ons is a hard option to overlook. Is there a k-member made for the s197 for an LSx swap?

no they are making 435rwhp with all boltons. not 450. not to mention they are breaking with cams. they cannot handle the power you think they can. lots of LS3 folks are pissed abiut the LS having a glass jaw. powerdered rods are not very strong for that motor. a coyote swap solves everything. if you are set on LS, well enjoy making less power than a 2011 modular. i make 420rwhp with agressive tune and cai/offroad x. 407rwhp with safe tune.

I was at a HPDE last year with a guy in a G8 who I befriended. The stock LS3 crapped the bed at 11k miles before the first day of the event was over. Luckily for him it was covered under warranty. Another autocross friend had this 450 whp N/A LS1 come apart on the same track; sold the rest of the car as a roller.

I see Ford's current offerings as head and shoulders above what Chevy or Mopar is producing.

I've never heard of an S197 with LSx swap, however, I have heard of a New Edge with one.

Funny thing is, this guy was such a swinger on MF about how horrible Ford's modular motors are, and how superior GM's Pushrod technology is so much greater than Ford's pushrod technology.

Another funny thing is, after finding out his GT made 560 RWHP on 12-13 PSI, I told him about a Cobra with a bored out VT302 with a small TT setup making 835 RWHP on 14 PSI. He laughed.

It can be done, and I think this would be a sick setup. You really can't beat the N/A power of an LSx motor mod for mod.

Good luck and keep us posted.

your wrong.. full bolts ons, minus heads, ive seen over 500rwhp plenty of times with stock internals and over 700rwhp on supercharged ones with stock internals also. much past 700 though and they use meth and the ls3's seem to really like the meth injection. not praising ls motors but your facts are far fetched

not all g8's are the same. the g8 gt has a 6.0, which from my understanding is a mixture of ls2 block with ls3 heads and intake? something like that. the gxp has the ls3 if thats the one you were reffering to

LSx swaps are awesome in any rear-wheel-drive platform that doesn't have a V8 option readily available. Examples include Nissan S-chassis, BMWs, and Mazda RX-7s. The LSx is perfect for those platforms because of its compact size.

Putting an LSx into an S197 is pointless. It has not been widely done, so there are no kits to do it. The custom work (especially the wiring) is going to be so expensive and time-consuming that you'd be better off building a built short block and putting a blower or turbo on it.

Doesn't do your car justice Lupo...Sounds awesome in person!
