Really the M90 is obsolete now that DOB has a kit for the used GT500 blowers.

Agreed. The GT-500 blower is called a M122H. 122 cubic inches = 2.0 L which is plenty big enough to do the job. Intake is on the driver's side, so it's short.

If starting from scratch, the DOB GT-500 blower setup is a huge bang for the buck.

Yeah, I am leaning heavily that way now that I've gotten answers to my original question, and some firsthand info.
Along with some one on one with DOB.

I'm just flushing out some details and waiting for a few things to clear up before I greenlight.

More specifically, waiting for my engine to give me a good excuse...
I hate to say it. But I kind of wish it would stop running so well.

Hard to argue a new motor when mine works just fine.

Tried lying and unplugged a few coils.
Old lady agreed it was ok to replace because it was "dying"

I then forgot to keep unplugging them, and she realized, wait...it runs fine.

No need to replace the whole engine. Just a few key parts in the rotating assembly ;)

I've debated a rebuild.
Aside from travelling, or buying assembled.
No one has a reputable modular builder here.

The general consensus is buy it.

I was also tempted to do it myself.
I don't see it being particularly harder than an old pushrod.
Still waiting for word of a good place to have the block machined.

El Paso is pretty big on simple R&R.
Most go the lkq, junkyard, or new car route.
The few places I've talked to "shouldn't be a problem"
Not what I call reassuring for $3500.
So I am about to grab a 2010 with 14k
For $2300 shipped.

Just as a heads up, Pentalab has given me plenty of solid knowledge on directions to take for maximizing my M90. I go back and forth about headers, TB and cooler, vs. just the pulley and intake and making the same power. I still have not decided.... but I have decided that I am looking for driveability and low maintenance/hassles. As bad as I want LT's, I don't want to mess with them loosening up or replacing gaskets... given their difficulty to work on/install. I drive the car very little and drag race it even less... maybe once a year. So I have been leaning toward just getting the pulley, tuner and CAI and be done.

However, if I were in your position, I don't think I would hesitate to go DOB or 2300. Given the characteristics of my car I am stuck with Roush stuff. Otherwise I would be doing DOB or VMP. Lately I have been thinking of selling my 62mm TB, skipping the pulley and tune, selling the M90 setup and just upgrading to a 2300. But, I am not sure how intense that swap may be.

I guess what I am saying is, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are just driving the car around and not drag racing it, get the blower.... you won't regret it. If you don't care about having a household name for a blower, go DOB for best bang for the buck. Sometimes I wish I had a car that I was more willing to 'bastardize" and have more fun with. As far as I can tell, you have no limitations... so consider everything... but the blower is worth it.

And if you can rebuild your current with better rods and pistons, it opens up the potential for you to go above 450whp with less risk.

Motor assembly is straight forward. Use Ford specs for everything except the piston to wall (determined by the piston material) and rings, replace the rods and pistons. That's it. The most important thing is the machine shop. They need modern machinery that can hold modern tolerances. This includes the ra for heads and block deck. Any shop that is well versed in LS motors should be able to do the machine work. Just don't let them talk you into using sbc clearances.

Assembly takes a few hours and is super easy.

Here's a link to the Ford manual. Thank Louie in Dubai for the info.

Refreshing.
The last 5.0 I rebuilt was done by a shop that only worked on said engines.
He called and gave me the specs to order my pistons and such.
Had a whole list of his work.
I then put those against OE specs and it was solid after a weekend.

I'll keep asking around.
We have a tech school here with a funny car.
Unless the instructors do the builds, someone has to build em.

If they can build for 6000hp
A small mod motor should be simple.

To the other responses.
Yes that's me.
No drags, no autocross.
Just the occasional back road Speedo peg.

I don't drive like an old lady.
But I don't beat it daily either.

I just figure if I'm keeping the car, best to up the power as well.

If a 5.4 swap provided the gains it did to a 2v.
I'd just do that and enjoy the extra torque.

But it seems the 5.4 3v doesn't even make a viable replacement for long term DD purposes.
Even though I've researched enough to know the intake and such would fit.

Hell I even considered spray and stock cams for the next setup.

DOB made for a very convincing setup.
Being lazy buying a full setup.
Taps in cheaper than an m90.

But again, I'm not in it to win anymore.
I just want some more pep with the ability to reasonably expect another 160k out of whatever setup I choose.

As always, thanks guys.

Good reasons for my OP and very good arguments.
