Ive talked to 3 or 4 different people on this forum alone claiming to have transmission whine after breaking in the car 1500ish+ miles.

I was just curious... if this is in fact normal, is there any additive or anything that can be added to get rid of the whine in the transmission?

the whine is rpm based, the higher the rpm the louder the whine... basically sounds like a twin screw whine when sitting in the car lol.

My transmission doesn't whine one bit at 3,100 miles.

However, the 8.8 started whining today... and I've had a very random grind while shifting into second for about 2,500 miles, now.

I'm a BIG fan of manual transmissions for the fun factor... but if you're on the fence... I gotta say, just go automatic.

NO NO...We just need to figure out what is going on then get it fixed. Like i said just ride the car until it breaks then get it fixed by the dealer. Then you know what you need. I might just get flywheel, clutch, aluminum DS and 4.10 rear end with Truetrack but i am waiting until something gives up so i don't lose guarantee. Then i see what i really need first.

Eh. I'm about to take it to the shop for the gear whine and they're going to investigate the 1-2 grind, also. I somewhat know the techs who will be working on the car at the dealer, so getting warranty stuff done wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I agree, though- 4.10s or even 4.30s would be spot on for these cars. With the huge rev band it can take a lot of gear.

Also if you are cruising at 60 mph with the cruise control on it is very noticeable.

I think that is rear gear whine.

I have the same thing along with notchy shift into 2nd. Especially when the trans is cold. I plan to change the rear and trans fluids and add friction modifier soon in hopes of resolving.

My tranny whines a bit. Can only really hear it in 1-4 gears at part throttle if you have the music real low...

I figire its normal, thats that the tech at my dealership said. If it got much worse then it would be an issue. But until it starts screaming or grinding I can live with it.

Once my exhaust is on, i hardly think I'll be able to hear it

My complaints exactly. Taking mine to the dealer for resolution.

My car has 3200 miles and no whine from my manual transmission, shifts are smooth.
I drive it fairly hard and so far so good.

Mine doesn't have the whine but it does grind everytime I powershift into second gear. It only grinds on the 1st to second shift, all the other shifts are fine. I have 1100 miles so far. When shifting normal I don't have the grinding.

Whatever. I have been powershifting manual shift transmissions for 30 years now and if done correctly there shouldn't be any scrape or grind like this new tranny of mine has. My 2010 Mustang GT powershifted perfectly into second gear all day long. :asshat:

My tranny started whining too right after 2k, most noticeable in the first two gears, I know the previous Tremecs whinned due to stronger, hardened gears, I hope this is the case with the Getrag. I'm a little concerned because I'm having a supercharger installed as we speak, and I know the dealer is gonna tell me to go to hell when they see the blower! I know Getrag makes the tranny for the 2JZs twin turbo Supras, so I'm hoping Ford made a similar choice with this specific Getrag.

Mine's gotten a bit notchy in second when it's cold. I don't think anything of it. Coming from the TR606 in the GT500.....this is nothing. Besides, every TR3650 I ever had was clunky.

I don't have any gear whine though. Let's hope that stays away.

Your 2010 Tremec wasn't made in China!
