yes the car is running and at the moment seems to not have the noise at all, albeit the valve train is a bit noisy, but i haven't heard the car run properly in so long it could be normal. Also the lifters could need some time to pump up properly again too

Anyway since the car was not cranking we tested every fuse with a test light, swapped relays, and probed the "DO NOT PROBE" fuse box under the hood and could find NO reason why it was not cranking. Everything seemed to work fine.

So we started unplugging connectors a few at a time and tried to crank. We made it to the cam position sensors and unplugged both of them. The car immediately cranked. We plugged just the pass back in and it still cranked. We plugged drivers in and no cranking. Unplugged pass side and left drivers side plugged in and no cranking. At this point we are thinknig either the Sensor is bad or the engine is mistimed, although i was so damn careful and know it was timed right again.

Unplugging the cam sensors reminded me of this thread:

http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117464&highlight=180+degrees

And after reading through it we had a new theory that the pins might be bad, but since i never removed the gear, it seemed illogical. anyway we decided to swap the sensors from left to right and vice versa. Did the test with both plugged in and it started right up. i have NO idea why it all of a sudden worked but it worked.

Anyway the noise seems gone. Silly to say but the only changes made were moving a hose clamp that was contacting the bypass valve arm preventing it from moving properly, removing all lifters and followers, inspecting them, checking to see if they were limp, and making sure each of the spacers to go with the cams were under the lifters, and changing the spark plugs. My father is convinced it was a lifter possibly not seated properly. Im gonig with the bypass valve/hoseclamp idea so i can laugh at myself. MY father doesntthink the noise of the bypass arm hitting the hoseclamp was the same as what we heard. I guess i have to agree. Lifter seems more likely.

Anyway tommorow i finish installing and bolting things down. I only have 4 bolts holding the cam covers on at the moment. computer is being held in with zip ties, jsut got a bit of water in the coolant tank, no antifreeze at all, and i gotta clean up all the wires. Hopefully no problems after all that haha
