A couple of months ago I posted my problems I was having with misfires under load. I changed a bunch of stuff, updated some wiring, even sent Lito some data logs.
As it turned out, the brand new MSD coil on plugs would work both on a bench test, and light acceleration to 40 mph. Once over 40, or over half throttle, they would misfire severely. I eventually replaced them Motorcraft COPs and the car runs great.
I called American Muscle about a return, but it was outside of the 30 day window, so I had to deal with MSD. I called, got the return authorization, and sent them in requesting a refund.
Tonight, I received the same COPs back saying they all tested normally.
No wonder MSD stands for “My Spark Died.”

Yep. That's the Holley way. They have ruined many companies. Mallory, Simpson, Edge, Hurst, Hooker, Mr. Gasket, Flowmaster, Earl's. These are all companies that I have dealt with as a dealer over the years, that have been acquired by Holley. None of them are the same. Poor Q.C. Even worse customer service.

That really sucks, and yet I still see hotrodders on tv building track car using msd crap. It’s amazing how sponsorship money can make it work.

Do you think they actually give them better products than standard off the shelf pulls?

I know I have seen more than one episode of “Roadkill” where they used a MSD product that was bad out of the box.

I've been using Accel coils for some time now without any issues.

It is my understanding that coil packs are made in only a couple three factories and just get rebranded for multiple companies. I think it's hit or miss with any brand.

You’re probably right.
What pisses me off is MSD claiming their product works when it doesn’t.
They pass a continuity bench test, but fail under heavy load. I had a chance to replace them with Motorcraft, and car runs great.
I’ve been on a couple of different automotive forum sites and MSD has a shit reputation.

Can't comment on the aftermarket COPs.
But, anything with a distributor gets an MSD 6AL.
The Vortec Strim 91 fox has the 6AL and Blaster coil. Zero issues. Makes 420 rwhp @8psi. And is For Sale!
