So today my girlfriend and I were going to our first of 3 Xmas party's and low and behold my first present was an accident! It was not my fault though and no one got hurt so that was good! We were going up the street at about 25 and a lady didn't stop at a stop sign and came on out. I slammed on the breaks and turned the car so I avoided most of the impact but still made the contact...Pics are below.....

So...What I was thinking....I wanted to get a Roush front bumper anyway...so maybe I can get them to put one of those on there? I have seen in other posts that people have gotten aftermarket parts on their car in the event of an accident. My question is how can I do this? What do i say and to who? I am not sure if they will replace the hood. It is dented on the creases so I don't think that they will get that correct and I don't want any body filler on the car!!!!!!! What should I do? Hopefully I can get some good suggestions.

1st take it to Ford for the quote (9 out of 10 theyll be the highest)
2nd see what the adjuster says after looking at the car and the quote from Ford
3rd once 2 is done and they say fix it, THEN ask the insurance company if you can buy the replacement parts and have them provide a check to the company(s) once you summit a invoice for the parts.
4th take the parts to Ford and fix the car and if there is any left over money you might get Ford to write you a check for the left over money!

thats what i did about 4-5 years ago. damage was right under 5000, bought all the new parts for alittle over 2300, and repair cost was 1800 for a total of 4100 and the Ford body shop wrote me a check for 900

But once you get the OK to fix it you might want to work that out with someone at Ford about what your going to do

Thank you for the help. OK bare with me this is my first accident..so I don't really know what to do... So if I understand you correctly: if they say yes to me buying the replacement parts....do I buy it on my credit card or something? I am confused on step 3! lol

Also, since on the hood it is dented on the front lip crease and dented on the raised crease going down the hood will they replace the hood too? I know I am getting stingy, but I wanted to redo the hood also! lol

First off I'm glad no one was hurt. Second it is nice to see that the car is drivable and not totaled.

I would think they would replace the hood. I would hope they do the same with the fender too judging by how it looks like it is damaged at a body crease as well.

Now is a good time for a CS front bumper and Bullitt grill don't you think? So it is like a present in a strange sort of way.

Take a hammer to the front of the hood....ahahahahahah...

In all seriousness, I had my insurance company just cut me a check....they gave me the check for the damage, and that's when I did the GT500 swap...

Thank you for the kind words...Gone_n_60. The front bumper will have to be replaced, its hard to see in the pics but there are 2 decent sized holes in the bumper. I would not believe they would try to feed me a line of bullshit about them keeping it! LOL.

I have always liked the look of your car ever since I have been lurking on this site. But how will that bumper look on a vapor silver car? So far I only like that bumper on a white car. I have seen the Roush bumper so I know i like it! If I knew how to work photoshop I would try and get a cs bumper on a pic of my car just to see....but I don't know how to so i am SOL! And yes if this works out to my advantage your right about the present in a strange way! Maybe a Merry Christmas after all?

I was thinking a GT500 swap also but what all will have to be replaced? Eventually (or now) I want the 2 in cowl hood from bbr...will that work with the GT500 front end?

Depends on if like what Chris said, depends on if you get the check or (if its made out to you and your bank which is part owner) if you get the check deposit it and pay for the parts (keep ALL RECORDS incase the insurance company asks for them to show the repair) if its made out to you and the bank youll have to have the checks sent out to whatever companies you buy parts from

hope that clears things up

I'll get you a parts list....simple piece's, just a good bit of them....

I got lucky at the time and found a GT500 wrecked in the rear-end....

The BBR 2" cowl will work....

Sorry to hear about your wreck. I just wrecked mine as well, though a bit worse. I'm still hassling with the insurance company, but hopefully everything will be resolved by Monday so I can start getting parts and getting my car fixed.

I have afriend that runs a body shop and when I had hail damage to my hood the insurance company replaced it. My buddy that since the hood is alumnimum its a bitch to sue body filler on do to the amount that aluminum expands and shrinks with temp. so yes they WILL replace the hood as well as bumper cover, you cant fix plastic

Thank you all for the responses. Another question: If the insurance adjuster asks me why I want to get my own parts, what do I tell him/her? Would that make them give me less of a settlement?

No, cause one of 2 things. 1 once they cut the check they dont care what you do or 2 they wont care where the parts come from as long as it gets fixed

Ok say all this goes through and I am able to do what I want....do I just tell the dealership that I will worry about getting the hood and bumper and they can worry about the other parts that I don't see or know what the hell they are?

If/ when it goes through, be adamant about the check being cut to you. Then take your time and shop for the parts. Stock pile them so you have all that you need, then take them all to the bodyshop at once so it gets blended correctly. It looks like you will need a fender also, keep your eyes peeled on the forum and craigslist and get some good deals on the stock parts you will need. This will allow extra money for the "mod" replacement parts. Also, BBR sells painted roush front fasicas so you could also save some cash there.
