Some states waive the emissions requirements for all dealer transactions. It bites the buyer in the ass when it's time for renewing the plates.

So is it legal to sell it without cats the guy told me that VA doesn't require it

That's pretty concerning to me... did it have a VA state inspection sticker on it?

Sold as-is is regarding a warranty implementation for the most part, however AS-IS can be implied for the safety inspection too... such as whole-sale vehicles.

No inspection, he said that the way VA is if it was inspected then the new owner would have to have it inspected again because it doesn't transfer ownership.

I wouldn't touch this car since it's been tuned, as said if you have an issue, Ford will tell you pound sand

Too late papers have been signed. But I'm going to be optimistic, someone obviously loved this car at one point so I don't think its been mistreated. I'll have BAMA write a tune with the parts I've found and give it some TLC. I'm actually a little stoked, I'm so used to buying car's new or like new that don't need anything done to them, now I get to build something back up and with whats in it already I think its a good foundation.

Our I bought a lemon and I'm screwed!!!

Lol, that doesn't make sense. A VA inspection is renewed every year and is applied to the owner when purchased. Only way it doesn't apply is if you bought the car in VA and needed another state inspection. Such as a MD perpetual inspection if you lived there.

Either way, good luck with the car!

That car needs to have cats to be sold. It's illegal otherwise, ESPECIALLY in VA.

This. Doesn't matter if it is "As Is." If it deals with emissions, depending on state, the dealer is not allowed to sell it without it being able to pass emissions.

Spoke with BAMA today and looks like his tune was for the boss 302 manifold, JLT oil splitter and cold air intake, off road exhaust, 3.73 hears and tuned to 93 octane. Looks like everything is still on the car. How bad do you think it would be if the dealer put 87 in it? It had about a third of a tank when I got it and I filled it with 93 as soon as I left the dealer. Yesterday I drove it around the block and the check engine light came on. I checked the code and it's a misfire code but I'm sure there a leak in the exhaust. When it idles you can hear a little puff every minute or so...

Get comfy, your new ride awaits.

Seriously sounds like you just took a d in the a from that dealer. I would change oil, plugs, air filter, etc. Maybe do a blackstone analysis? Find out how much shit you're about to have to buy to keep this bitch on the road...

Sorry to hear... And Vince is right. Nothing would cause a misfire code especially after sensors. Where do you live in the area?

Yeah, Cam will eventually get around to diagnosing the issue :p. J/K.

I don't think the 87 is supposed to hurt much, but it depends how long they have been running it with 87. Can you do videos of the idle and a bit of running? Like cbass said, do a basic tune up on it to see if any issues go away.

Lol I live out in belair Harford county. I'm dropping the car of at a local shop for the inspection and he's going to check the exhaust out. This guys good so hopefully it's something petty. I planned on changing all the plugs and such when I get it back.
