Hi everyone! My 1st ever post is a question about replacement struts and shocks for my 2006 Mustang GT V8 convertible with 58,000 miles on it. I need a recommendation for which shocks and struts I should buy for my weekend cruiser. I only want to replace the existing OEM parts. Not going to be lowering the stance. I'm looking for an updated, refreshed. smoother ride. In addition, I'd also like to know exactly which other integral parts I should be replacing when I have the new struts and shocks installed? Thanks for your help.

If you are wanting an OEM ride, you can buy Motorcraft shocks/struts and reuse your existing springs. You will need a spring compressor to remove the springs from the old front struts. There are other methods that involve jacking the car up, compressing the strut assembly with a jack below the control arm, then unbolting the strut from the tower then slowly lowering the control arm that I have used, but it’s not the “correct” way, so YMMV. Though, I am more nervous around coil spring compressors than jacking the car up.

If you want slightly stiffer/more controlled, Bilsteins are a great premium option, Koni’s are a good mid-tier (I currently have the oranges) and you can get to more budget options too. Really up to what you want to spend. I have also used Monroe’s OESpectrum line and honestly they were fine for a DD. Only had them on the car a year before going to Konis though, so can’t speak to longevity.

While you are in there, you will want to replace the strut mounts (easy upgrade is the GT500 strut mount), check your LCAs and ball joints for age/cracking and replace as needed. Also a good time to check your sway bar end links, and sway bar mounts.

Bilsteins B-6's are excellent. Only strut/shock I'll use anymore. Great ride; fantastic control. Cost a bit more but worth it. :snoopy

That's very low miles for a car almost 20 years old. Beautiful car.

If you're doing it yourself, I'd recommend quick struts with the spring already installed. They're not much more expensive, and you don't run the spring risk.

Many Ford struts are attached at the top with bolts. Definitely get a few studs and nuts of the correct thread size and use those on top to line up the holes.

You'll want new strut mounts for the front. The original OEM tended to fail after awhile. Most popular replacement is to use GT500 uppers.
