What exactly will the tune do? besides keep the check engine light from coming on. Will it reduce the smell also? Will the car perform better? My next mod is CAI so I'll be saving up for a tuner anyway but I just wanted to know what to expect. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

The tune will turn off your rear 02 sensors which is why the CEL light won't pop up. If you live in a place with emissions, you may or may not pass because of your rear 02's showing up as "not ready" during the test. The tune should make the car perform better especially when it comes to throttle response and it will make the gains you get from the O/R H pipe higher. I don't believe it will reduce the smell.

I'll let you know about the "smell". Mine goes in tomorrow night. Obviously with loss of Cats there will be some additional odor. Just hoping it won't been as bad as my cammed FI 2005 setup with LT's and OR X some years ago. Otherwise it will be something else for the wife to grumble about.

put an O/R X on mine about 8 months ago or so. It's for sure smells worse than no cats, not sure if it's all because of the cats, or the Bama tune. Thinking of getting a new tune from VMP.

The tune is supposed to adjust the AFR a bit to compensate for not having cats. Either way it's going to stink if you're idling with the windows down. I personally like the smell.

Running VMP tune. Will advise.

I already got it in and it does smell. It's only at stop lights and backing up. My wife doesn't seem to mind too much. Surprisingly. The first day it smelled much worse though with everything burning off the new pipes.

That is with the windows down

Even though it smells, the way it screams when doing anything more than lightly giving it gas is more than worth it. Love the sound

it does sound a lot better, i'll give ya that.

Yes, I only really smell it when idling at a light, backing up , or exiting the car when I shut it off. I have also heard a hissing kind of sound since I installed the o/r X. The cat delete legs are welded on, reused the factory manifold to exhaust gaskets, and used high temp rtv between the factory band clamps at the end of the X pipes. Also get more smoke out of the tailpipes since cats were removed.

The extra smoke is normal. Water and hydrocarbons are byproducts of combustion and the absence of cats makes that more pronounced.

I don't have any hissing sounds and I'm pretty sure they reused the factory gasket. Pretty sure they didn't use rtv either.

Running E85 will kill some of the smell.

All I care about is not wearing it into the house from just starting the car, backing out of the garage and walking back inside. "Odor" typical of a pre 1976 car would be expected. I just don't want to be wearing the smell in the house like I did with my FI 2005 that also ran cams, and LT's with the OR pipe.

a thin bead of rtv was placed around the inside of each side of the factory band clamps where the cross-over connects to the rest of the exhaust. Just in case they don't seal all the way due to being reused, or maybe mixed up between sides or something. This would just seal any small leaks, if there were any, in the band clamp.

hissing might not be the right word, but it sound like an air moving sound, seems like its coming from right side. I've had them off and on twice, torqued to spec each time and the sound persists.

Your making me want to get under mine today and check for leaks at the crossover. Pypes uses the u-clamps for that section which I wasn't really a fan of. Maybe it's for a reason? I do have a band clamp on the way I may swap. The crossover pipe is 2.25 on the pypes I think

Okay gang here's the setup. Factory exhaust manifolds, Lethal Performance OR-H pipe, GT500 single tip exhaust.

Odor question - There is a very light if any smell at all. If that aroma bothers you, you probably need to put the car back to stock and trade it for a Prius, put flowers in your hair, and join green Peace. I never smelled a thing sitting at idle with the windows down in the car, at WOT w 9.5psi boost, decelerating, or starting up cold. All I could smell was new exhaust metal breaking in. Car has no cams no LT's on it. Runs 11.2-11.3 AFR @ WOT. I sat in the garage revving the engine checking for possible leaks with both doors open and noticed nothing.

That's my analysis OP. I say go for it. Even my wife who has a sensitive nose said she smelled something faint but it wasn't exhaust fumes and believe me she grumbled about the 2005 that I mentioned earlier in this thread.
