I searched and didn't find much both on here or Google. I'm trying to find a wallet friendly alternative to the Tiger Racing hood. I did find a member with an 05-09 Mustang on here who did something similar to what I may do. My question is, if I picked up a set of universal louvers/vents what would be the ideal placement on an OEM 2012 hood for best cooling? Studying Vorshlags threads as well as looking at the placement of the tiger racing vents it looks like somewhere low on the "cowl" portion of the hood. But what about in front of the cowl or to the left and right like the 13/14s.

I have a spare OEM hood available to me to work on. This would be a modification to compliment my World Challenge Splitter. Does anyone know of any other threads discussing this? Products?

Before I decided to do a dedicated ESP build for 2015, I was thinking about this as well. What I came up with was buying two of the GT500 vents and placeing them in about the same spot as on the blue car you have in the picture.

Man I was really hoping someone had already done this on a 2010-2012 Base V6 or GT hood. Thanks for the links I'll look through them a bit closer for inspiration to explore this on my own. I'm more of a follower than a leader on these kinds of custom things lol

@csamsh are you suggesting 07-09 GT500 louvers on a 2012 hood instead of a 2010 GT500 louvre?

Aren't large vents like that more for aero than engine cooling? I believe they are intended to work on a car with full aero, such as flat bottom and rear diffuser/giant wing

Source:

With no air flow path to the bottom of the car available, air pressure can build up inside the engine compartment. The hood is generously vented and the rear area left open to alleviate this and direct air flow over the top of the car, reducing drag and helping the aero bits work better. The base of the windshield is usually an area of high pressure but this car has a higher engine compartment pressure than most due the the flat bottom and the windshield has a lot of rake.

I fully intend for it to be an aero mod as well, which is why I want to locate it correctly. I've heard multiple times my World Challenge splitter would benefit more from some engine compartment air pressure venting

My vents are not universal, but rather made for the 05-09 by a company called Trackspec motorsports. I have been meaning to do a write-up on them but being a Marine Corps flight student eats up a lot of my time. I'm going to make it a priority here in a few weeks since there are obviously inquiring minds out there.

Placement of the louvers is dictated by what you want to accomplish with them, surface that they're going on, etc. The air flowing over a curved surface generates a vacuum, and the suction is at its greatest at the peak of a curve. This means that you'll likely get the best results from louvers that are placed at the peak of the curve on the fender. Also, if you're intention is to increase cooling you would want them behind the radiator, which isn't hard to do. My placement was dictated by the fact that I had the GT500 vent installed before hand. Your goal should be to increase the cooling ability of the radiator and the extraction of all the air entering from the grille rather than plain heat extraction from the block, though that will happen as well. I will note that the hood fluttering at speed common 05-09s was eliminated when I installed the GT500 vent. Surface area of these new louvers is about 300% better than that vent.

With my louvers, I am thinking of ducting the rear of the radiator to the center louvers and leaving the outside ones open to the engine bay to act as heat extractors. It is possible however, that with the louvers being at the front edge of the engine that they won't be as effective at that task. A lot of air escapes under the car as well so a splitter that goes back to the rack will increase the effectiveness of the louvers.
