I see some places selling "upgraded" cast-iron/steel timing chain tensioner units, which are supposedly better than the stock plastic ones? "These Tensioners feature a Fixed Ratchet System that never allows the chain to loosen. This can be of extreme benefit if there is ever a loss of oil pressure." Thoughts?
You could probably make an argument either way. I'd certainly want to use the Felpro gaskets for the plastic tensioners though.
Brian aka Fordtechmakuloco certainly knows what he's talking about and here's his insight:

I haven’t done this yet but when I do I am going all Ford OEM and GT500 oil pump & pick up. Also the FelPro gaskets too.

That's my thoughts on the cam followers and adjusters. I do want to put some cams in but I've heard they can cause trouble with emissions so I may wait until after I get the car back on the road. But yeah, while the cams are out it seems the best time to replace all the followers and adjusters.

As for oil pumps, I knew of Boundary from some acquaintances. They supposedly do a full test and sheet for each pump build, in addition to billet gears and backplate, so I went with them.

i swear by this guys on youtube...
i even did the impact on the sparkplugs to not have them break,
helped with timing the engine,
explains things no1 else will , ..

one of the main reasons im skeptical on people throwing money to "bulletproof" these engines.,...
a cool dude named chevykiller or sumthing like that.... did everything and some ,, thousands and thousands spent, ,, look up his posts,,
he is the reason i wanna stay in the 600rwhp range with these motors..

and ford tech explains the tensors pretty well,, and you will see why i used the felpro gaskets with em to make them bulletproof

Yeah you don't need any radical changes to the short block for 600rwhp. The stock crank is plenty strong enough so all you need is forged rods (Gen 2-3 Coyote/Boss 302 are inexpensive), a decent set of forged 2618 alloy pistons (9.5-9.8 CR), a higher capacity oil pan (e.g. '13 GT500 8.5L unit), and a HV oil pump (e.g. '13 GT500) with billet gears i.e. mostly readily available OEM + upgrades.

You don't even have to go mad with fuel system upgrades either. A set of 60lb injectors (47lbers would be right on the limit for 600rwhp) plus the Deatschwerks DW300M 340lph fuel pump (SKU 9-305-1034) would suffice on 93 octane gasoline.

Just for closing loops, I decided to keep the plastic tensioners but get a set of felpro gaskets for them.

Haven't had a chance to call Boundary about the crank sprocket to figure out the right choice there.
